Do you have a sit down dinner or buffet for christmas dinner?
We have always done it sit down but our family has grown so much (there will be 16 people coming this year) I may need to do it buffet. By the time everyone would pass around the dishes the food would be cold.

That's a lot of people. If you prefer to do it buffet style, go for it!

I just feel like it is not as formal. We did it this way last year. We also have a pasta 1st which I make dishes and pass around to everyone and than last year I set up the rest of the food buffet which worked best.

Due to lack of room, buffet style. Oh well, everyone is together and that is what is important.

My DR table is huge too and I add another table at the end for a few more people. Maybe I'll do it sit-down. We just have so much food I dont know how it will work.

Maybe break them into smaller portions so one side of the table has potatoes and so does the other side?

Re: Do you have a sit down dinner or buffet for christmas dinner?
our family is very rigid in their expectations.... we have to have a sitdown dinner with the 'good china'.....
with an appetizer course with champagne, main course with a meat, potatoes, 2 veggies, and then dessert... even many of the specific recipes are written in stone

Re: Do you have a sit down dinner or buffet for christmas dinner?
Christmas dinner (on Christmas Eve) is with DH's family, all 500 of them
needless to say, it's buffet style.
they grill a HUGE filet tenderloin on the BBQ and then everyone brings a side or dessert. last year was my 1st Christmas with them and the amount of food served was absolutely INSANE

i was gonna say this, too... this is how my grandma used to do thanksgiving when we had about 15, 16 people. it requires a lot of extra serving dishes, but if you're worried about everyone getting all of the food, its a good way to go..

We have a sit-down for 10 this year. Christmas Eve is more like a cocktail party/buffet because we have a lot more people, but Christmas Day is just my immediate family, DH's immediate family and my aunt and uncle so we do a sit-down, its tradition.
