Do you have kid-friendly toys and stuff at your house?

For your nieces and nephews, guests, etc?

A long time ago, I bought a fat wiffle bat and ball, and I think some kind of a soccer ball too. I have nieces and nephews ranging in age from 18 to 5.

I know it depends on the kid, but do you have anything kid friendly at your house that's a hit for them? I've never had to think about this before and I'm just realizing now that our house is NOT kid friendly! Chat Icon

Our front yard is not fenced and we're on a corner with a 2 way stop. So playing out there is not safe. Besides, I have a 17 by 25 foot perennial garden on one side and a big circular garden right in the middle.

The backyard would be better but I plan on having nice garden beds in the only place that would really be suitable for playing ball or what not. I don't even have a gaming console! Chat Icon

we have a couple of balls and a blowup pool for our neice and nephews. We also have a few baby toys that have been here since my niece was a baby and when the boys get a little older...the toys are going away!

Re: Do you have kid-friendly toys and stuff at your house?

DH and I are still living with my parents, but they have a few things here for my younger cousins. However, when we were living on our own we didn't have anything for kids. I've always been of the mind that if you're bringing kids to my house, bring some of their toys with you. I have kid friendly movies but that's really where it ends.

I was just thinking about this. Chat Icon We're having a party and there will be about 4-5 kids coming. I hope I'm not expected to keep them entertained !? I think the kids are all around the same age so hopefully they just play together. Our back yard isn't fenced in so the parents will have to watch them. I figure they'll bring stuff knowing that we don't have kids.

we live in an apt and no, we have no kid friendly stuff (except some aruba coasters that my gf's dtr seems to love to play with but they're harmless so why not lol!)

people know this and bring stuff to entertain their offspring.

I have a few Disney movies and a bunch of kids' books, because I used to teach. But no toys, puzzles, video games, art supplies, outdoor activities - I do have a yard they can run around and use their imaginations in, but that's it.

If I know the kids are coming, or a bunch of kids are at my house, sometimes in the warmer months I pick up bubbles, etc. for the little ones..crayons, etc.

We have a Wii and a SP2..so the older ones are covered, plus a bunch of movies as well. MOst of the time they come with their own stuff too.

Re: Do you have kid-friendly toys and stuff at your house?

We have things that we've picked up along the way before we babysat our nieces. A few books, flash cards, play-doh (DH's purchase). We don't get to watch them that often and we like to buy them a little something. And, I have a few small souvenir stuffed animals that they like to play with.

No I don't have any toys or anything here. I don't really have room to store that stuff & I never have any kids over (there aren't kids in my close family).

Re: Do you have kid-friendly toys and stuff at your house?

we have a lot - people gave them to us over the years...and i bought some

most of our friends have kids under 5
we have blocks, a tea set, a catterpillar thingy that plays music, boxes of books, some stacking cups, a kids cookng set, and 2 kittens (though they are for us)

for the garden i have a small pool, sprnkler, water guns, and i jsut got chalk and hoola hoops

my mom always had lego and stuff around the place when we were older, so it was normal for me to have it too

the books and coloring books / crayons are popular (from the $1 store)

I hear you about the garden though - we aren't fenced in in the front and I wanted to make the side garden a patio and flowering / sitting garden, but DH wanted to know where the kids would play, so thats on hold

eta - we tivo'd a few kids shows and have htem saved for emergencies. and the 5 year old loves Wii sports

I always have snacks on hand for my neices and nephews that I know that they like.

We have outdoor games for the yard in the summer.

Coloring books, and access to the desktop computer and Playstation 3.

Plus the dog which non of them have at home - she is hours of entertainment....

Nope. When they visit, they bring their own stuff.

My nieces and nephews all live out of state, though, so it's not like they drop by without advance notice. Chat Icon

Re: Do you have kid-friendly toys and stuff at your house?

Our nieces & nephews range in age from 1 to 21 years old. We do have stuff in the house for the younger kids like coloring books, crayons, craft paints and a couple of toy cars. I will also pick up small craft kits from the $1 bin at Michaels or AC Moore, this way we always have something for the kids to play with.

Same here. But we live in an apartment and we don't get a lot of visitors. If I know a kid is coming over, I can easily grab stuff from school.

I do. A friend of mine actually told me I was more accomodating than some of her friends that have kids.

no we dont. our nieces and nephews RARELY come over b/c they live out of state... if they came over a lot then MAYBE we would

i think parents should bring toys for their kids if they are going over someones house for an extended period of time

Re: Do you have kid-friendly toys and stuff at your house?

We live in an apt. and barely have room for our stuff let alone toys for children who visit infrequently! Personally, I think it's up to the parents bring toys and games to keep their children occupied while visiting. Our apt. is not "child-proofed" either.

We don't know any kids Chat Icon so we don't really. We do have some stuffed animals and action figures and frisbees and stuff but not really any toys.
