First day my dad took me driving, he taught me how to. You never know when you will be in a place and they will not have full service ... take upstate where I live now  Oh how I miss free full service

My ex spoiled me and used to pump it for me. He'd even come over to get my car and put gas in it if we weren't hanging out or he had something else to do. I was so spoiled. When we broke up, I was kind of stuck so I was forced to learn. My daddy wouldn't do it for me. But now, DH does it usually unless he's not around and I need to do it myself.

I don't mean to sound obnoxious, but how could you NOT know how to do this? and trust me, i am no expert on cars!
My MIL can't pump her own gas. She claims that once in the 70's she tried an dgas got everywhere and she hasn't tried since.
I pump my own gas.

yes of course and i can understand choosing not to pump your own gas but to not know how i really don't get, and what if its late and all the full service is closed and you desperately need gas what would you do? if you own or even drive a car you should know how to pump gas its just one of those basic necessesities of life

Yes. I grew up in a town that does not allow self serve but I had to learn pretty fast if I wanted to go out of the area!!!!

the cheapest one i go to by me is the same self as full so
i don't care about price difference in the winter...I do not get out of the car in the cold and opt for full service

BUT I was shocked when we moved to SC to know that people really DONT KNOW how to pump their own gas

Well, I imagine if you learned to drive in NJ, you wouldn't know &unless you spent a lot of time driving in other places. I only know in theory--I've never done it, but I don't really drive.

I too grew up where youc an't pump your own gas.. but once I learned to drive, I demanded to learn.
Now..when I'm in hton its just pure laziness that I get gas because I dont feel like getting out of my car sometimes. Otherwise, I have no problem doing it!
my bff doesn't know how to pump gas but then again its ok bc she only gets gas in huntington.

i didn't until i went off to college with a car (junior year). on the way out of town my dad followed me to the gas station to give me a lesson.
my mom still doesn't know how. she's also a nervous nelly who would never get out of her car at a gas station at all
