I was not allowed to drive a car until I knew how to pump my own gas & change my tire....I would much rather pump my own anyway!!!!

My dad taught me the day I got my license. Then I moved to NJ and it all went down hill. By the time I moved to NY, I had to learn all over again.

My high school sweetheart taught me- when I learned to drive- the relationship is long over- but at least something good came out of it. LOL

That's what I thought when I read the title!!!
I was
If you grew up in NJ, you never had to learn, therefore it's not second nature to them.
I used to do it all the time, but living here for 7 years now I get a little nervous when I have to.
Some pumps you just start pumping, some you have to flip the little thingy. Some auto stop, some don't.
It's one of those things that you take for granted that you just know.

I would be really surprised if someone says no it's not rocket science. even if you've never done it - you open the gas tank door, lift the pump handle off the cradle and pull the metal lever to start pumping. when it stops, you're done.
i swear we share a brain - when I read the OP this is exactly what i was going to type!
its not rocket science. I never had a lesson. its pretty self explanatory. the pumps even tell u when to press what these days

yes, but i can't remember the last time i did! i grew up in huntington, so i rarely did it on my own and now i'm in NJ so i couldn't even if i wanted to! Gotta love NJ-still under $4 and you don't even have to pump it yourself!

Add me to the list of people who grew up in Huntington and didn't have to learn. I have pumped gas less than a handful of times - I am not comfortable doing it.

yep and I prefer to do it myself then no gas gets on my car when the let it drip as they pull it out.
I also HATE waiting, and when they pump it for you they start it and walk away forever!!

My Dad tried to teach me when he was teaching me how to drive. I effed up and sprayed gas allllll over the car 
I just went to full-serve stations for a while after that ...
Then a cute boy I was friends with taught me 
So, while I do know how, I honestly prefer going to full-serve stations. Even DH prefers the full-serve stations. There's one near our house that charges about the same as self-serve.

Oh yeah. I got BJ's every Sat and fill up. My mom however WILL NOT pump her own gas, she "doesn't do that".
