"Do you leave windows open/unlocked" - Multiple dangerous Suffolk County home invasions this week!
In the article, it states that the suspects are entering through UNLOCKED doors and windows (easy accesss). Family members were blindfolded, bound, had guns held to their heads etc. Very scary.
Thank God no one was injured!

Scary! I never keep the windows open when I sleep - if it's warm I use the a/cs....it's dark on my street at night - too scared! Thankfully I have an alarm and use it nightly too.

So scary...we read an article about this last night and I said to DH, "How are they getting into all these people's houses?"
I can't sleep unless eveything is locked up. DH grew up in a house where they didn't even have keys to their doors- they were all always left open. I bet more people do that than you'd think.

We sleep with our windows open, doors locked & alarm usually on. I've said it before & I'll say it again, I have a much better chance of getting killed in my car on my way to work but I still NEED to get to work. I'm not going to live cooped up or in fear because a handful of homes (out of millions) were invaded. If they pick my house they better be super stealthy because my dog hears EVERYTHING as does my DH, & if he gets up & loads one of his many guns before they get upstairs they are f#cked. I'm with Sarah Palin on this, I love my right to bear arms.

all doors locked, alarm on and only windows on the 2nd floor would be opened if we wanted the outside air. And leaving the front outside light on. I want a motion detector on the backyard too, but DH hasn't installed it yet. I told him I want it up this weekend. Always better safe then sorry.

I thought the poll was about leaving your windows open when you're not home? If you're not home then it's technically not a home invasion. As for the whole home invasion thing, the whole concept scares the h*ll out of me. I'm definitely more aware of what's going on around my house.

It may have been but the conversation did turn into what we do in general, home or not, with windows, doors, etc. In addition, if these people are brazen enough to come in when you are home, imagine when you are not!

Either way, I don't want to live my life in fear. I'll be more cautious but won't make any drastic changes to my lifestyle.

I leave my windows open with the safety lock on while I'm not home (that lock that only lets the window open about 2 inches.......) when we're sleeping, I leave the windows wide open - and our bedrooms are on the 1st floor. - We don't have an alarm yet b/c we haven't installed all of the new windows and doors ..........but I"m not going to keep myself cooped up in my OWN home b/c of a potential robber -
