Yes. Two of them to be exact. Both on the side of the house along the driveway. The windows are high enough to need more than a ladder to get in and are within eyeshot of the neighbors (who are very nosey and never miss a beat).

Re: Do you leave your windows open when you are not home?

never ever on the first floor.

second floor yes because no one could get to them without a seriously long ladder (i have a high ranch) and i think that would be pretty obvious to the neighbors

We leave our windows open a lot of the times when we're not home.
And we live on the first floor of a two family home

Not all the windows, but some of them.

I need to leave something open for the dogs and the cat .

Re: Do you leave your windows open when you are not home?

I am so bad...I leave the windows open and have been known to leave the backdoor unlocked.

Then again, if someone wanted to rob me, they wouldn't get much.Chat Icon

Not on the main level, but we always leave the upstairs bathroom window open for some fresh air.

yes ! right now every window is open upstairs and downstairs our kitchen and living room windows are open too.

I usually close the downstairs ones when we go out but it's been so nice lately we've just left them open.

I never ever open my windows. I go from a/c to heat.

I like my house sealed shut

Re: Do you leave your windows open when you are not home?

Nope, never.

Not since theives took a ladder from our backyard and attempted to rob our house by going in a second story window.

That was in my house growing up, when I was 23. The only thing that prevented them (the window WAS unlocked and open) was our next door neighbor's rottweiler, Zeus.

I know a determined thief will get around most things - but I'm not going to make it any easier on them.

Re: Do you leave your windows open when you are not home?

Only on the second floor and only open an inch or two. I'd be too nervous to leave any wide open while we aren't home.

Never ever. Sometimes DH will leave the upstairs bathroom window open, though.

I'm like this too. I do like to air out the house from time to time, but if I could keep them shut & locked tightly all the time, I would. Chat Icon

Re: Do you leave your windows open when you are not home?

Almost never. The only things we will do is keep one or two of our awning (high up) windows open, b/c they are high up and they also don't open too far. Other than that, the most we will will do is keep the upstairs ones open up until the safety locks, so no one can push them up higher. Never downstairs at night or daytime for sure.

There are too many sick people out there who could come in and hurt my pets (or even us for that matter). With all these break ins in LI, esp WHEN the homeowners are home, why chance it? Heck, men come in and prey on women in their own beds while they are sleeping, with their DHs right next to them. This stuff does happen, I would never think "It can't happen to me, it can't happen where I live".

I live in a very safe area, yet DH is adamant about me not keeping the front door open while I am home alone, or windows wide open if I won't be in that room for a long time. And I agree with him, you just never know. We would feel very violated if someone came into our home and went thru our stuff. I would be very upset if anyone took any of my belongings. Even worse, they could harm or steal my pets (or let them loose while robbing the house, this does happen). And my pets safety is just as important to me as myself or DHs or our future child. So leaving them open is not something I would ever do.

ETA - In addition, you never know when it will rain. I don't want my stuff to getting wet and ruined.

We do all the time. Last weekend we went out for the day, my step-son was the last person to leave the house, he left the front door wide open Chat Icon ...generally we do try to at least close the doors Chat Icon

Exactly!

My neighbors leave ALL their windows open all the time, day and night, even when they go away. When you are in your bedroom at night with your AC on, there is no way you can hear what is going on downstairs. Not a smart move.

Geez, I can see their laptop by the window, I am sure anyone else looking can too. Hey their lack of concern for safety is a benefit to me...at least if a criminal comes to our block to break in, they will more likely go to their house, not mine (since their has easy access and practically screams "COME IN").Chat Icon

I never leave any open. I never will. I have always been very security concious like that - we were robbed when I was young so it's been drilled into my head since I was 6 yrs old.

Re: Do you leave your windows open when you are not home?

We leave them open. We have a dog, but also, we live in the woods, our house is off of a dirt road and barely visible from the main road. Plus we have a few cars always parked there so it looks like someone is always home. My brother in law and my cousin (they are dating) rent out our basement apt.
