Re: Do you leave your windows open when you are not home?

We only leave one window open when not home. It's under a covered porch - for rain reasons and it has a safety latch that won't allow it to open more than the inch or so that it's open for security.

We do.

But we're in an apartment on the 2nd floor.

I have been known to do this. In my mind, I know I shouldn't, but I can't resist fresh air sometimes. Chat Icon

No, we have an alarm so we close all the windows when we leave.

NO. Then again we always have central ac running. Even when its not, I won't leave windows open when we are out or we go to bed.

ditto! my bathroom window has not been shut since I move in 3 years ago. in the winter about 1/2". I even leave my door open, I suppose passersby (sp?) think someone is home and dont dare enter. The doors and windows in the sunroom are always open in the winter but the front door is mostly left open because my kids are mostly out of the house last and I forget to get out of the car to go lock the door, well its a habit now esp. in the summer when we go to robert moses. in nice weather, always. the only time they are closed is if we are leaving the ac's on or if it's cold. we have animals, so of course i want them to have fresh air and a breeze when they're cooped up in the house.

Yes. We have an alarm system so we don't worry about it.

Truthfully, anytime you leave the house it’s a leap of faith, whether you leave the windows open, or shut, have an alarm or an attack dog…you just never know.

I personally don't agree with this at all. If I don't want my house broken into, rule #1 is lock all doors and windows so robbers are deterred. Would a crook rather break a window and make noise to get in, or slip in through an open window? Would a crook rather make noise breaking my locks to get in or simply waltz in the door? It's a no brainer to a criminal looking to make a quick steal, they seek easy access so as to limit chance of getting caught. When you don't lock your doors and windows, you are definitely majorly increasing the odds of being robbed than if you do lock your doors and windows, that's simply the bottom line.

I could never increase my risks knowingly but I guess to each is own.

Have you seen the show "it takes a thief" I have seen them break windows, break in through the sky lights, rob a house while the alarm was going off, etc. I knows its a show but it can happen.

.

I have seen this show, once or twice. I found it odd. Are they really trashing the house with the homeowner not knowing?

Re: Do you leave your windows open when you are not home?

If the A/C or heat isn't running... I do it all the time. We have those little lock things on the window that will only allow your window to be opened a max of about 3-4 inches, so I'll set those before I leave the house.

No... the homeowner watches in a surveillance van with the partner of the show.
