Re: Do you lie to other moms if your parenting is different?
I started the ban on TV late (he was about 17 mos) but I am so glad I did. I wish I had started as early as you did, actually. At first I felt the way you do - like maybe I should lie - but I felt silly lying about it so I just told people if it came up. You'd be surprised, other mothers haven't reacted strangely or judgemental at all. You don't sound preachy at all, and like someone else said, you sound realistic about it.

I don't lie either. The american academy of pediatrics says no TV until 3 years old so I just say that I'm going to try (i'm addicted to TV so it was tough). Everyone is different. I don't judge anyone and hopefully they won't judge me.
If there were one "right" way we'd have laws on these things!
ETA: When ppl are over or he's dead asleep the TV turns on. He doesn't notice it then. Once in a while won't get him hooked I hope...

I don't lie about how/why I do the things I do, but I do try to keep my two-cents to myself when I see friends do things with their children I don't agree with. If they ask what I think, I simply tell them how I plan on handling things, but I try to never tell them what to do with their own kids or pass judgement. Everyone has to do what works best for them and their own family.
