we are a bit of both too..
we worry a LOT about the future, having enough money for children, a home, etc
.. BUT at the same time, we do from time to time throw caution to the wind and plan trips, buy ourselves certain items we want "just because" ... (within reason, but still a splurge here or there) I think its just healthier for us this way..
I never want to look back and have any regrets

We do both --- DH's paycheck pays all the bills (morgage, phone, electric, etc -- with some left over to save), and mine goes towards groceries and trips -- also with some left over to save.
We got lucky - he got laid off and got 6 months severance pay although he sarted a new and better paying job immediately.
I sold my co-op at 50% gain.
So we have plenty in the bank, and can afford to splurge at the moment.
That will all change when I become a SAHM, but in general we aren't worried about that - yet anyway!!

ditto - us too!
ETA - if we don't enjoy today, there may be no tomorrow. While we don't live foolishly, we don't hold ourselves back. We're aperfect match in that sense, because we both approach life from the same perspective.
