I always say Happy Holidays, even if I know how they celebrate, because that also includes New Years

To whom?
If I know someone celebrates a particular holiday, I wish them a happy that holiday (Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, whatever)
If I don't know, I probably don't say anything. If they wish me a happy holiday in a store, I just say, "you too" or something like that.
I certainly don't say "Happy Holiday" to someone if I know they celebrate a particular holiday.

To a general group, Happy Holidays.
To family and friends that I know celebrate Christmas, Merry Christmas.
Same here but I think I used "Happy Holidays" in most of my Christmas cards this year.

It depends on who it is...usually Merry Christmas to friends and family. Happy Holidays to coworkers, etc.

I say Merry Christmas to a lot of people. I've had people wish me a Happy Hanukkah before and I've never taken offense to it. Personally I don't understand how it's offensive. But if I know someone does not celebrate Christmas than I usually say enjoy your holiday season.

same here - i am jewish, so my thing is, if i am in a mall, and someone says merry christmas to me, i will reply with a "happy holidays" and a smile.

i'm sorry - because some people don't celebrate christmas, saying happy holidays is "too pc"? is it so terrible that some people want to include all religions when wishing someone a good holiday season? i am  about your comment.

As a child, I always said, "Merry Christmas".
As an adult, the only thing I say is, "Happy Holidays". I've matured in my old age and learned that not everyone celebrates Christmas.

I posted this same poll on another forum and most of the members are located on the west coast and here's what they said.
60.38% say Merry Christmas
1.89% say Happy Holidays
37.74 say Both
and no one voted Neither

like so many others, I say happy holidays to strangers (like at the store or something like that). if it's someone I know well, I wish them happy/merry Hanukkah/Chirstmas
