My laptop goes on "suspend" mode when I am not using it. I also turn off my desktop when I am not using it. It generates too much heat and uses so much electricity. The only computers that stay on in our house are the servers but they are in a server rack downstairs and separated from the rest of the house.

at home I leave it on all the time....
at work we are supposed to shut it down each night but it takes too long to reboot so I only do it on weekends

we always leave our home computers running. every now and then I shut mine down overnight.
at work I have a laptop, so that gets shut off and I either take it home w/me or lock in my desk drawer.

at work they are on standby at them all computers get shut when not in use.
too much electricity to waste.

There have been a couple of recent threads on the home board about this.
My computers are always shut down when not in use. There is absolutely no reason to leave them on all the time. It's a complete waste of electricity.

ditto. is that bad? it seems everyone leaves them on. do you do that cause you dont want to wait for it to reboot or because its better for the computer?

at work, i shut it down every night before i leave...
at home, its on ALL the time, because when i'm home i'm always online- or i'll be cleaning and then take a break to go online for a few or check e-mail while i'm waiting for dinner to cook, etc. in my case, i use it so much that it would probably take more energy to start it up every time.

really paranoid here!
I shut down my laptop AND unplug it.... I'm afraid of super bad powersurges that could breach the surge protector 
I also back-up my computer on 2 seperate external harddrives

one PC here and we leave it on but it goes into energy save mode.
I shut it down completely about once a month. The monitor goes into sleep mode.

At work I shut if off at night. If people leave it on that's how I know someone else was on my computer  And most people leave it on, so I figure other people will be more likely to use a computer that's on.
Plus a lot of people at work are having problems with their computers I think with dust in the fan, and they are the ones who leave it on..don't know if it makes a difference.
At home I leave it on if I'm using it every day, otherwise it's off. I used to power it on and off, but it actually uses more power to start it up than to leave it on, and also I burned out 3 harddrives in the first 3 years I had my computer and the tech people told me it can do that if you are always starting it up, so I started leaving it on and since then, no problems. just need to clean out the fan and it runs well (and my PC is almost 8 years old!)
