Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?

Depends on what you do, and if it matters in your profession. Certainly doesn't matter for every job.

I could not get past a certain point in my career without a doctorate, so I am getting one, but my profession in general (education) does not pay very well.

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?

Not really. It depends on the field. Getting a master's in journalism would not earn me any more $$$. But for DH, a MBA can eventually earn him more, so it depends. My sister has a master's in family therapy, which she needed to even practice in NY.

No! I almost have my PhD (graduate in May) and I make less than probably all of my friends/DH/siblings who have only a bachelors. However, there is some potential to make a more significant salary with a private practice.

I just wanted to add that I think that there is a BIG difference in someone that has a HS diploma and someone that has a Bachlors degree but as you get in to the higher degrees....no.

More schooling doesnt = smarter!!

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?

I make more than some of my friends who have degrees. I have no degree but do have some college.

I want to get my degree and eventually even go for a masters. It think education is important but it doesn't always equate to more money.

At my firm, if I got my degree I could be a big earner. That's my 5 year goal.

nope, not at all.... college is not for everybody, and there are plenty of carreers out there that you can do without a degree that make really good money.... you just have to be willing to work hard

I dont think that "a lot" of schooling = better salaries, but I do believe that a "good" school = great salary...I came to this conclusion by working in the corporate world with a lot of ivy leaguers...

ETA: It also depends what you do...my friend went to an Ivy League school but entered a Public Health field and she is making a lot less money than I am...

I think it depends on what you do...in my field the more education you have to more money you make....but DH only has an Associate's and makes great money.

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?

depends on the career. I think it makes a difference for teachers and businesspeople with MBA, but other careers like computers, it's more based on experience.

Not necessarily - it depends on the field. My hubby didn't even have his college degree until 2 years ago, and he's making 3 times what I'm making Chat Icon

It depends what field you're in...if you're in administration then yes, you will make more $$ if you get a bachelors degree...at least thats how it works in big companies.

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?

I don't believe that more school equals better pay. It depends on what field you are in or even the company to determine whether a degree will help salary wise. Some companies will compensate you more if you have a degree than if you don't

Here's one very po' ivy leaguer Chat Icon My brother too--but we both chose fields that do not pay that well. He has since gone to law school and is now making $$$$$$.

But yes, going to an ivy did probably open doors that otherwise would have been closed.
