No.
I think it depends on the field and often who you know, not what you know.
ditto
but jeanine aren't you in finance? A degree opens the door for you.
Honesly, you probably would get a significant salary increase with a Bachelors.
I mean your could probably get you B.S. in Finance in 2 years going part-time. Since you already have a degree - you probably have all your "core" classes - you would probably only need 9 or 10 classes to satisfy a Bachelors in Finance.
If you were to go to a program like Baruch you'd pay state tuition and they have a nationally ranked part-time program.

In what I do, none of those degrees would make a difference.

An associate's is usually 60 credits, bachelor's a min. 120, so it would be at least another 60, but I think in finance definitely worth it! I was on the trading floor at a major Wall Street firm and they didn't hire any brokers or traders without a bachelor's.

I think the degree I got helped me get my first job which was decent paying. But I haven't been back to school for my masters or any more degrees, and my career has progressed along nicely position wise and salary wise.

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?
I think it depends as to what field you end up in. I know for a fact I make more than some of my friends who have had more schooling, but we're in totally different fields, they work on LI and I'm in Manhattan. Lots of different factors to consider.
Anyway, to answer the question, no, I do not think a lot of schooling means more money. Unless of course you end being a lawyer or doctor or someone like that! Which I am not!

I think it depends on your field. I have a bachelor's and I'm making a decent enough salary, and so is DH, but we're not in a professional field like medical, dental, law, finance, etc

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?
No. Where I work some of the AA's pull in 6 figures where some people with Bachelors make half. It depends on what field you are in and how much experience you have but generally, I find that unless you are in a specialized field....medical, law..a degree doesn't guarantee you more $$$.

In my case, yes. I'm a legal secretary. I make 3 times what I was making before I had a degree and the work is no more difficult than when I first started.

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?
nope- I have tons of schooling and while I make pretty good money
I made more as a bartender ( no taxes vs taxes)
and my DH who didn't go to college makes way more money then me, is a VP and is 3rd in line at his job to the president at his company
don't get me wrong- he is smart- esp when it comes to mortgages etc
but he also passed the series 7 - while going to sound factory and only studying for 3 weeks- not many people who went to college can say that
so it depends on the person- IMO

I dont think that "a lot" of schooling = better salaries, but I do believe that a "good" school = great salary...I came to this conclusion by working in the corporate world with a lot of ivy leaguers...
QUOTE]
I disagree with that- I went to FIT- which is a SUNY but not considered much higher then a community college
and I make more money then my brother and his FW who both went to Lehigh- which is one step below an ivy
I think it has more to do with the field you pick
my brother is working at a mortgage place- doing the samething that my DH does with out a degree and my brother is way below my DH

I think your position is not going to pay more. I think that is the company that you are working for.
Some of the Assistant positions ask for Bachelor degrees and pay a pretty high salary.
People I know with B.S. in Finance are starting entry-level anywhere from 45-60k pre-bonus in NYC. Again it depends on the position.

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?
In every case, no.
But statistically speaking, college graduates make a lot more money than non college graduates. I don't remeber the exact figures but it was significant. (I used to work for a non profit that helped open the doors to college access).

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?
Again, I think it depends on what you do. My job requires a degree and the average starting salary in NYC is in the $50k range.
Also, in many jobs you need a degree to advance and some jobs now require a degree, when they didn't before. I have a friend who is an administrative asst. who has worked in the same place for over 20 years. She doesn't have a degree, but couldn't get the job she is doing now without one, since hiring practices have changed since she started there.

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?
I'm only speaking from my experience, and that's w/in Finance. Yes, more schooling and what school (and grades) does make a difference.
My old manager worked here since she was 18 years old, never got her Bachelor's, still working for the company at the age of 34. She will never be able to go higher in title or salary b/c she does not have her degree. That being said, I was getting paid just about the same as her with a lot less experience - due to my degree. Fortunately, she's now enrolled and working on her BBA.
Furthermore, for many financial firms the school you attended and GPA does matter for FRONT OFFICE positions. If it came down to a student from Baruch vs. a student from NYU - they would compare GPAs.

No I don't. I think it really depends on the individual and what they are able to do with their smarts, personality and the education they have.

Re: Do you think a lot of schooling =better salaries?
it really depends.
i cant say yes or no because each career field is different.
my career is about past experience, not college
however if you are applying for a hedge fund trading or to be a tacher at some top tier school, then of course they will look at schooling.
it really depends and can swing both ways. bottom line- a degree will never hurt your resume.
eta- because i am a female in a male dominated industry my education earned me the respect of client and colleagues
