Do you think it is bad for the wife to work ft and dh to work pt?
One of our options is my dh to work pt at night so he can be home with the kids. I hold the medical so we wouldn't need that. Has anyone done this or known anyone and did it work?

Re: Do you think it is bad for the wife to work ft and dh to work pt?
I know people who are considering similar arrangements. Actually, now that I think about it a bit, I know several couples who work different shifts.
I don't see anything "bad" about it.
If it's the right arrangement for you, do you really care what anyone other than DH, your kids and you think???
ETA: to answer your question, "did it work" Yes, these arrangements work, but there's a lot of compromise. You'll compromise the amount of time you'll spend with DH and you'll spend together as a family.

I think it is fine, this is what my huby and I do, HOWEVER...now I am working f/t in addition to running the house I think you need to make it clear what each person;s responsibilities are because my hubby just doesn;t get that when he is home he should clean the tub, food shop, do homewor with the kids,k this is still ALL ME!!!!!!

Re: Do you think it is bad for the wife to work ft and dh to work pt?
DH has a job that's technically full-time, but only has to be there three days a week. It works out well for us- he does do a good amount of housework, and he loves taking care of DD. She has a much stronger bond with him than she would if he didn't get that extra time. So I think it can be a great thing.

Not at all! In fact in a few years, I hope that my DH will work part time (and still maintain a full time salary) while I work full time. I plan to pursue my MBA degree as well and this situation would work very well for us.

I would fear this happening with my DH too...We've discussed him being a f/t dad, but since he doesn't really clean or cook now, I don't see him starting then.
I would never think it's bad, I just think if it was me I might wind up being very overburdened.

Re: Do you think it is bad for the wife to work ft and dh to work pt?
It's not bad at all.
I wish that I could find a way for Rob to be a stay at home dad. He would prefer it too.
I think it is actually a fantastic thing that your children can spend time with their father instead of in daycare.
ETA: Before I quit my job, Rob was a stay at home dad to our oldest son for about 4 months. He loved every second and so did I!

Why would it be bad? If you can afford that, it sounds like a wonderful arrangement.
I don't understand why it would be bad...

I don't think it's bad at all. Acutally, DH could stay home since I make more and hold the medical.

We HAD a similar situation...DH was staying home with the baby, but didn't do much of anything else. Then, I started working from home more, so I was also watching the baby, working, and doing household stuff. I decided to put the baby in daycare, so now DH pretty much has no responsibility and doesn't work. This is causing major stress for us, because I work all the time, take care of the baby 90% of the time....and DH, well, he doesn't do much

You do what works best for your family.
One of my friend did that. She worked F/T during the day and her DH watched their DC. He worked at night. That was the only way they could do it. They could not afford daycare.

Not at all! You do what works for you.
I know a girl from the Navy where she works f/t as an officer and her DH is the SAHD. She loves it and so does he. It works for them, you have to do what works for you.

Re: Do you think it is bad for the wife to work ft and dh to work pt?
I knew a couple where the wife worked and her DH stayed home for a couple years to work on personal projects. It worked for them.
Everyone needs different arrangements to fit into lifestyles.... so do whats best for you guys!
