I think it is fine, this is what my huby and I do, HOWEVER...now I am working f/t in addition to running the house I think you need to make it clear what each person;s responsibilities are because my hubby just doesn;t get that when he is home he should clean the tub, food shop, do homewor with the kids,k this is still ALL ME!!!!!!
We HAD a similar situation...DH was staying home with the baby, but didn't do much of anything else. Then, I started working from home more, so I was also watching the baby, working, and doing household stuff. I decided to put the baby in daycare, so now DH pretty much has no responsibility and doesn't work. This is causing major stress for us, because I work all the time, take care of the baby 90% of the time....and DH, well, he doesn't do much
That is just BS kim. He needs to go out and work if hes gonna lay around and do nothing.

Re: Do you think it is bad for the wife to work ft and dh to work pt?
I think in theory there is nothing wrong with it at all. My parents had this arrangement when my mom went from being a SAHM to a career woman when she was offered a really terrific opportunity.
My dad switched to the night shift and he was home all day with me and my brother. He would sleep while we were in school.
Sadly, it did not work out for them. Our lifestyle changed dramatically in that we went from having ok money to having a lot, but resentment built between the two. Both were exhausted, my mom was so busy with work and she was traveling all the time, and my dad worked all night, then got us kids off to school, and then was Mr. Mom when we got home, making dinner, etc.
I don't remember them really connecting and it was what caused them to grow apart.
I really don't want to be a debbie downer about it, because it's an arrangement that I would definitely consider with my DH too, but I did want to share because looking back now, I see how things could have worked out differently with my parents.
HTH and good luck! It doesn't matter what anyone thinks as long as you guys are truly cool with it.

I don't think it's bad at all! Any family needs to do what's best for them and if that's what best, than go for it!

My best friend works full time and her husband is a stay at home dad. She is an attorney and her earnings potential is higher so they do what works for them. If I earned more than DH, he would gladly trade places with me and work P/T while I worked F/T.

Nope. You've gotta do whatever is best for you and your family. yup
exactly.
ITA. If is does not work for everyone involved, then don't do it. But if it does...why not!?

Whatever works for you & your family.
I would worry that the DH would feel emasculated since it's not the traditional role, but again ...whatever works.

No, we're considering having DS in daycare part time in another year and DH staying w/him 2 days a week. He owns his own business has more flexibility w/his schedule and I am thrilled that he sees the value in keeping Ryan with him a couple days/week. This is the next best thing to me staying home w/him!
