I think it's fine. It's when the kids think that name brands define them that I see the problem. But there is nothing wrong with quality, nice clothing. I'm just partial to buying it on sale. Chat Icon

totally agree!

although i absolutely REFUSE to buy anything from Ambercrombie ever since my niece went in to fill out an application for a job, and they told her NO because she "didn't have the look they want in their salespeople" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh, Chat Icon Chat Icon and yes, for the record, Abercrombie is probably filled with the most obnoxious people that walk the earth. I have a friend who used to work at one in HS and the stories she would tell. They really do hire based upon looks. It's appalling!

I think it depends on the reasons why. If it's just because those clothes are cute and the quality is wroth it, then it's fine. If it's to fulfill some kind of vicarious materialism, then it's not fine.

Want to know what's bad? My cousin is 12 now and just got her first coach bag. When she was 10 she asked me "Is that a real Louis Vuitton?" I said "you're too young to know about this stuff" but her family has turned her into a complete brand wh*re and that's really not healthy IMO.

Yes. And I don't think 9 year-olds should be for sale to begin with!

Stacy - dress him in whatever you want. I don't think it's crazy if that's what you like.

I don't think a 9 year old understands what a "brand" is - think of it this way - every item has a brand name...whether it's "high-end" or not - as long as the child does not get into the habit of demanding to only have the high-end, then it doesn't matter.

I dont know about that. My 5 year old told me he needed to wear a Gap shirt.Chat Icon

Re: DO you think it's crazy to buy a 9 year old...

I buy my 7 year old neice name brand clothes. Not because it is name brand, but because it is really cute stuff. I can't help it!!
Kids know about name brands even at a young age. It is different then when we grew up.
