I'm not sure if anyone else works there, but Hofstra University just announced that power is back there.
Announcements will start coming out in a few hours about openings/closings/etc.

I feel like he will have to do it by district also. Some areas are way too devestated. I don't know if my school has power or not (I work for the DOE) but if it lost power at all then the food is an issues. I work in a school that gets 100% free lunch. So until they restock I don't see them opening. Maybe it's being done today. Who knows. I personally want to go back to work because I don't want Bloomberg to add days onto our calendar somewhere else. Unfortunately my son's daycare on LI has no power and is closed so if schools are open I may be stuck home anyway.

 My mom said if you get a lot of snow maybe you will give back the entire spring or february break......

That is not going to happen. NYC has a surplus of days so we should be good. From what I learned from a principal is that we have 5 contingency days which we will prob. use this week the way it is going. So if we have 1 or 2 snow days then maybe they will have to make up a day or two. It is what it is. We are not going to lose an entire spring or winter break.

The last 3 days we knew by this time of the day if NYC schools were open or not. Wonder what's happening and when Bloomberg's next press conference is.

Bloomberg's press conference is at 1:30.
He was probably waiting for Cuomo to finish.
He's also trying to figure out what the hell to do about schools! With lower Manhattan and areas of Queens/BK with no power and limited transportation I honestly have no idea what they are going to do.

I think the opposite actually. If schools are open many, many people need to figure out how to get there and make arrangements for kids (LI commuting teachers), so I think the later it goes the likelier they are closed.
Plus - how do they open schools when many don't have power?
