Do you think she was wrong?
Curious to know what LIF'ers thought about this. I was in stop and shop last night getting a case of beer for company coming over at 7 pm. I went to the express line. A woman with 2 kids, looked about 7 and 4 came behind me with a full cart. The cashier told her it was a express line. The woman had a a attitude and said "the other lines are too long, what's the problem?" just generally acting obnoxious and entitled. The cashier again said it was a express line. The woman again was rude and as I was walking away she was unloading her cart.
Opinions?

Of course she was rude, the express line is for people with less than 10 or 15 items. The cashier should have enforced it but I can see why a cashier wouldn't want to get into an argument, if that was the case she should have called a manager.

Definitely rude. The cashier should have called the manager over. I get mad when someone has one extra item on those lines and a full cart would have sent me over the edge lol.

Without a doubt she was wrong.
Unfortunately, some people believe that the rules just don't apply to them.

Re: Do you think she was wrong?
Too bad the other lines were too long. Wait like everyone else. Don't jam up the express line. Asshole. And you what sucks. The cashier and manager probably couldn't do anything about it. So she wins anyway with that entitled obnoxious attitude.

It's an express lane. She has a cart full of groceries. She didn't belong on that line. She should've quietly taken her rude, self entitled, bitchy self to the appropriate lane.

If I was the cashier I would have closed my lane just as she was putting her groceries on the belt. I can't stand people like that.

Re: Do you think she was wrong?
She was completely rude and wrong! Unfortunately, being in retail myself, customers have been taught to do whatever they want, be as rude as they want to, and to put up a stink if they aren't getting there way. So they do just that and get away with it.
As a slight spinoff…Last week I was at stop and shop and I used the scan it gun and scanned and packed my entire order before I ever got to the line. At my Stop and Shop they only have a few scan it customer lines, one of which is also an express line for self check-out. So I went up and got on the shortest line without regard to how many items I had since it was already all rung into the scanner and in reality it was just a single scan at the register to complete my order. It turns out I went on the "self check out express line" (which is also a scan-it customers line). A woman came up behind me on line and flipped out on me since I had more than 12 items. I tried to explain to her that it was already rung up I just needed to complete the order with a single scan so it is the same as if I had one item. She continued to be rude and I ignored her. It took me a matter of a minute or two to complete my order and be finished. Was I wrong?

If she didn't have the scan thing where she didn't need to unload her cart then she was completely wrong. If everything was bagged and she just needed to scan and pay then the cashier was wrong. (the scan thing can be done in any lane)

Re: Do you think she was wrong?
The only thing I may give her a pass on is the fact that she had her kids with her. She was probably looking to get out as quickly as possible.
I know that will be a LIF diabetic excuse for some, but my DC is 4.5 and it's really difficult to ever take him to the store because he is almost guaranteed to have a meltdown.
Not that it's anyone's business on here, but he does have services to address these kinds of things, and for the most part, I leave him home if I can because I have been THAT mom with a kid throwing a full-on tantrum in the check out line and everyone looking and whispering like I am some kind of horrible parent who cannot control her kid.
If there was no one else waiting, I also don't think it's AS big of a deal.

You were not wrong at all!! I'd rather stand in line behind a scan-it customer than someone with 5 items. It's just so quick!

Didn't reply to this earlier. I find that the issue with so many people is they are too busy being busy-bodies and therefore quick to jump to conclusions about what someone else is/isn't doing. This is exactly what it sounds like occurred in your situation. I don't think you did anything wrong either, and I still stand by my thoughts upthread regarding the OP question.
I am also willing to bet that if the mother approached the cashier nicely about using her check-out, then there would also be a totally different response on here ;).
