Do you think this is too many naps for a 3 month old?

Yesterday my DS had 3 naps.

The first nap was after he got up from 700-1030

Second nap was from 12-1

Third nap was from 315-445.

Im only asking because whenever he naps well like this he sleep at night is worse. He woke up twice last night. When he is up more during the day he sleeps longer stretches. I dont get it. I thought sleep begets sleep. And there is really no keeping this kid up during the day because he gets SUPER cranky after 2 hours of being awake so I have no choice but to let him sleep.

i'm not going to be much help b/c i don't remember DD's 3 month schedule etc, but yes the "rule" is sleep begetting sleep. those naps seem really good to me, duration and spacing though! how is he getting up @ night? does he seem hungry or just restless like nothing will help b/c he is too well rested and doesn't want to sleep anymore? DD was definitely still waking 1-2x @ that age but was breastfed so..
i don't know if i would try to keep him up if he is cranky during the day-seems like you'll pay for it then too. hope someone can offer better insight than me!
i'm just gearing up for this stuff again since i have a C scheduled next week! so i'll be here soon!Chat Icon

what time do you put him to bed btw? could it be too early?

3 naps a day for an infant is normal. I remember DD would take 2 really long good naps and then a shorter power nap in the early evening. She did this for quite some time. However, th ebetter she napped - the better she slept at night. If she DIDNT nap well, her sleep at night would suffer, I think bc she was over tired. Believe it or not - she just turned 3 and Its STILL like that. If she doesnt get a nap during the day, she will wake up early the next morning.Chat Icon

I would continue to let DS nap like that, maybe it was just a bad nights sleep for some other reason? I do believe most little ones take 3 naps in the beginning, Itll taper off to 2 when hes ready.Chat Icon

Both Hannah and Jack took 3 naps until around 6 months. They usually did 9 - 11, 1 - 3 and then a cat nap later in the day around 5. I just kept the late one short (about a 1/2 hour.)

Maybe your late afternoon nap is too long??
