Do you use a chair for time outs?

or just put them in a corner?

They are 18 months old....

We tried to do timeouts over the weekend and were unsuccessful. Nicholas will NOT stop hitting me, DH and his twin. When I hold his hands and say "no hitting", he laughs at me. I tried sitting him down by himself, but he keeps laughing and walking away. I kept picking him up and putting him back in the spot about 6 times, then I gave up.

Do you think a chair would work better? (a "naugty chair", like I see the nanny911 do)....or just give it up because it's a phase? It's driving me bananas!!!!!

I just plop him down on the floor. Sometimes he tries to sneak away, but I yell at him to get back or he'll sit there longer. Whether it was the floor or a chair, I think they'll try to get up anyway.

i usse the crib/pack n play as a time out with no toys, blankies or binkis...my DD is 15 months and the corner or chair option doesnt work bc she just laughs. atleast in the crib/pack n play she is contained and throws her temper tantrum in there

We use the bottom step on our staircase. It's "around the corner" from our kitchen. I "Peak In" to make sure he's not off the step.

I really like this idea -- he gets up everytime I place him somewhere so this may just work! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!

Ds is only 10 months, so we dont do time out yet. But my sister has a chair that says time out on it, and i think there is like a clock/timer thing attached to it.
