Do you use a collar or a harness?

We were told that a harness is better for the dog. Molly grew out of the one she had - and now I am finding all the new ones to be wayyyy too confusing.

Can I just put a plain old collar on her?

Il's use a harness on their yorkies - we'll be doing the same thing when we get our puppy.

We tried to use a harness on Tiny and he hated it so we had to go back to the collar.

Harness. It's so much better for them.

It also gives me some more control over my monster. Chat Icon

Do you have the adjustable ones? That's the last one we got for Molly and it's been a nightmare to try and figure out how to work it. DH and I were convinced we were losing our minds last night bc we just couldn't get it right.

He wears a collar with his tags, but when he is in the car or we walk him he wears the harness too.

Why can't you get it on her? Do you need help? Swing by and I can help!

lol lol - well the old one we had - was fine - but she would fight us to get it on her. It's a whole big production. She will bite us and run away - but meanwhile she is so excited to go for a walk that I just don't understand it.

This harness - we have NO clue how to work.

Re: Do you use a collar or a harness?

Harnesses are better for smaller dogs since their tracheas can get crushed if there is force on the collar. Also the harnesses are more comfprtable for the dog as it reduces the one or two pressure points into a wider area.

If the new harnesses are not what you like, check out the GW little catalogue or Trixie & peanut for some "Vest Harnesses" They are a lot easier to use & are very comfy on the dog.

We use both. He has a collar on when he's just playing around in the backyard, but when he's out for a walk, he wears a harness.

Re: Do you use a collar or a harness?

Now the question is - how the hell do I figure out what size she is. It lists by inches and not pounds - this should be interesting!

Yeah you will definitely have to measure her. Their should be a guide of how to measure & what part. If you do not have a measuring tape that you can use (flexi one) take a string & use that to measure & mark then compare it to a regular ruler. This is usually what I end up doing with my dogs anyway b/c they are not that curious about a piece of string as they are about a tape measureChat Icon

Re: Do you use a collar or a harness?

Harness are reccomended for small dogs do to there delicate nature. I have to put a harness on my 70 pound beast because it gives me a lot more control.

If your having a problem finding a harness thats the right size you can bring her with you to petco or pets smart and they will help you find the right size.

just try to go during the week when there not as busy.

We got the adjustable one. It was huge and I didn't think it would fit him but we fixed it so it fits him perfect!
