Do you use fabric softener on children's clothes?
I usually use it. My mother just told me that you shouldn't use it on children's pajamas because it reduces the flame retardantness. I knew that you aren't suposed to use it on flame retardant clothes, but what if they are tagged as "not flame retardant". Does the fabric softener actually make clothes flammable? I feel like an idiot for not knowing this...
Also, you shouldn't use it on towels, terry cloth, chenille, velour, fleece, etc. Is this also because of it making the fabric flammable, or just becuase it doesn't agree with the fabric? I know it makes towels less absorbent.
Thanks!

Re: Do you use fabric softener on children's clothes?
I heard that it makes the towels less absorbant so I never use it on towels.
As far as baby clothes I don't use it because I use the Free and Clear detergent so if I were to then use fabric softener it would defeat the purpose by adding back dyes and perfumes kwim?
I have heard it reduces the flame retardants effectiveness too- but that isn't why I don't use it...

Re: Do you use fabric softener on children's clothes?
I use fabric softener on all of DD's clothes. One time I forgot to put in the dryer sheet, and her clothes came out full of static. I have probably ruined the flame retardant clothes, but I can do without the static cling, especially given that the chances of a fire are so low.

Not for the kids.
We use the All free & clear. DH is sensitive to detergents and I figure the kids maybe too so I just skip in on their clothes.

Re: Do you use fabric softener on children's clothes?
I use it but not the entire amount. I use a teaspoon or so in my 6 months old's clothes and probably twice that in my 2 year olds. I didn't like the way the smelled without it or all the static.

Re: Do you use fabric softener on children's clothes?
I don't use it b/c of the flame retarded thing - if clothes are not flame retardant, then there's nothing to prevent, but I can't be bothered to separate them out.

Re: Do you use fabric softener on children's clothes?
I don't use it because it makes me itch and I'm very sensitive/borderline allergic to all synthetic fragrances.
ETA: I do use Shaklee's dryer sheets, but I never really considered it a fabric softener. They're all natural, veggie based dryer sheets (fragrance free).

I use it on their clothing...nothing they own says flame retardant so I never thought of it as an issue.

Re: Do you use fabric softener on children's clothes?
I love fabric softner but have stopped using it all together since having my son. I actually want to try to start using it again and am hoping he will not have any reaction to it.

I don't use it because DS has very sensitive skin. Instead, I use dryer balls.

Yes I use it. Actually I never used anything different on my son's clothes than I would on ours. From birth i have used regular Tide and Downy.
