Does anyone else have a hard time when taking 2 or more kids out alone?

They are really well behaved, but when one has to go to the bathroom, they both have to come with me, which usually leads to attitude from the one who doesn't have to go. But they are too young to leave alone while I'm in the bathroom. Like tomorrow they want to go bowling, but it's getting to the point where I'm starting to dread doing things on my own with them. Does anyone else go through this?

Yes, I honestly hate going out alone with both kids. We have the same issue with the bathroom like you. Plus my 5 year old is catching an attitude now about having to go to "gullllll's" bathroom.

Mine fight all the time when we are in the car, but when we are in stores they are pretty good.

I have to, I really have no choice. They are with me all the time. Yes, they are in camp or school, but I have been working PT while they are in camp or school, so I really have no free time to myself, ever. DH works 6 or 7 days a week, and is gone all day, until 9 p.m., even on weekends.

Yesterday, they had the pleasure of going out dress hunting for my DD, as you know Chat Icon I went to Century 21, Macy's, JCP, Bloomingdales, Nordstroms, etc. They were miserable! They walk so slow and complain they are thirsty and hungry, all the time. It's almost come to the point where they expect to get something to eat and drink while we are out, since I've stopped so often to see if that will buy me some more time. Chat Icon

At least they don't complain about the bathroom, they always go with me and when one goes, I make the other go!

I have to be honest and say my DS is good, he goes with the flow and he was really cute yesterday helping me try and find a dress for DD. DD on the other hand, is a royal PITA! She does nothing but complain, says she is tired, can't walk, wants to be carried, wants to go home, etc. Chat Icon

For me they normally behave better when it's just me taken them, however if it's my husband and I then they are all over the place and drive us both crazy!! Anyhow some tips that I found worked for me was- before going to the store I have them go to the bathroom, for bowling, beach, town pool the bathroom is our first stop and they have to go or else we don't start the fun. If it's it somewhere that we will be for awhile then when one says they have to go to the bathroom the other must come and go as well. (they are 3 & 5) so far it has worked.

I always had to take my 3. It was a luxury if i could food shop without them. I didn't find it hard, but preferred if i didn't have to always take them. Now i beg them to do things with me.

yup. I prefer to only take one (moreso my eldest for the ease of moving faster to place to place). Like anything it takes way longer to do a simple thing with more than one. lol, such is life.Chat Icon

I rarely do it because they both run in opposite directions (my youngest is only 3, so I'm hoping things will get better when he gets to school age? Please tell me it does!)

Re: Does anyone else have a hard time when taking 2 or more kids out alone?

I have struggles, I think everyone does in some way, shape or form. They're kids, they add a layer or 2 (or 10!) of confusion and difficulty to pretty much anything. Mine gang up on me if they smell weakness. Honestly, whether I have a hard time with it depends on the particular activity and my mood. Also their moods but actually less so. On one day the whining about something might bother me less than another day. My DH is much more at ease handling them all which is why he can take them camping by himself. But he doesn't care if their clothes are mismatched or stained or if my DD's hair is a wild mess. He is comfortable with giving them a longer leash (figuratively! LOL) than I am. He will take them to the beach by himself. I worry someone will grab one of them if I look away. So you are not alone. With the bathroom thing, I would just say this is how it is, we go as a group and that's that. I shut them down on stuff like that where they really have no choice. My DS is almost 8 and is getting some tastes of freedom but he's still small and he's impulsive so he still has to be watched. I struggle with wanting to give him freedom and then not being able comfortable that he can be trusted.

Erica, it gets better. While the challenges still exist, it gets better. Chat Icon

Now that dd (6) is pretty good, brody (2) is completely insane. I would rather have teeth pulled at the dentist than take them both out! Can you tell i need a break?:)

It feels better to hear I'm not the only one. Whenever we are out I feel like I'm the only mom shushing a complaining, whining kid in the bathroom.

I try to avoid it whenever possible. I can get 10x more done without them!
