Does anyone ever lay out their own money for things at work?
My boss has severe ADD (undiagnosed of course ) and is very scrambled. He owes me around $200 for stuff that I mailed out periodically during tax season. I have mentioned it to him in crossing that he still owes me money and he said he would cut me a check but 3-4 mo. later I still haven't gotten the money. I dont know why, but I feel weird asking him for it again although I know I shouldn't b/c it's my money and technically he is in the wrong. he was supposed to get me a company Amex card months ago and of course still "hasn't gotten around to it".
The thing that bothers me most is that we are a small company so the other employee who is our maintenance guy just got citizenship in our country so my boss thinks his financial situation is different (which he has blatantly said to me) so he reimburses him the same day. Well, my husband is an NYPD cop and I work p/t so I dont consider myself to be rolling in dough
Any advice on how I should approach the subject AGAIN?

Maybe you could type something up with what you spent where and give it to him. Tell him that he might want this for his records as a receipt for the check.
Maybe that will jog his memory.

mention it again to him, but not in passing this time, approach him when he is in his office, and tell him that you'd like him to cut you a check for what he owes you, and give it to you the same day you get paid. And then NEVER lay out money again, next time he wants you to do something, tell him to give you his card, or get you a company amex.

Write on a post-it how much he owes you and give it to him to stick on his computer or wall. Maybe it will be an in-your-face reminder to pay you back.

I have had to do this, but I also got reimbursed promptly. Most of the time it was for travel.
I always had to submit my receipts along with a memo outlining the expenses. I would do this with your boss and tell him you need your money.

I do all the time- but I fill out an expense report- and get a check in a week!
I would never let them owe me money- I am way to anal about money for that!

Submit an invoice with terms of payment. That might do the trick.

I would ask in writing and detail exactly what it was for and when you paid for it..maybe send him an email and then if you have to ask AGAIN (hopefully you won't) you can just forward your current request to show how many times (and how long ago) you've asked for it

I would always email a reminder:
subjuct: just a friendly reminder =)
re: petty cash is low. when you get a chance, 50.00 should be fine. 25.00 for what I have covered and the remaining 25.00 should get us through the week.
thanks!
I always had to keep a starbucks fund for him. I always felt weird asking for my money back...but he would have been shocked that I was able to live on my salary if he ever would have seen my check
