Does anyone have a hard time sleeping even when the baby sleeps?

I really try to sleep/rest when Gavin sleeps, but I have such a hard time trying to sleep even though I am sleep deprived.

My mind starts racing on things I should get done and do.

Even if my mom is over helping and I can go upstairs and take a nap, I can't sleep.

This is driving me nuts.

My mind races and I keep worrying about Gavin and other things.

Sorry for venting, just a sleep-deprived new mom here.

ME!!!!

Since day one I have only taken 2 naps! And she is a month old at this point.

I either feel like I need to do stuff (prepare stuff for dinner later, clean, laundry, computer, etc.) or I just watch TV to relax, I can't sleep during the day.

Stinks cause at night I crash at 10pm

I know for me - this was totally normal for me.

I would try to nap, lay down - but I couldn't stay still for the life of me!
Although, the house wasn't spotless either Chat Icon I would find other things to do.

Since it was nice out when I had DD, I would do alot of sitting outside, reading and relax as much as I could

and by the way - how are you doing momma??????

Re: Does anyone have a hard time sleeping even when the baby sleeps?

I had and still have this problem. It was soooo bad in the beginning though. DS never slept so i was only sleeping like 1.5hrs at a time - my mom would come over so i could sleep for longer stretches and i would just lay in bed, it was the worst feeling in the world b/c i would feel even more nervous b/c i couldn't fall asleep! It does get better...Chat Icon

I did in the beginning. I would watch him sleep/breathe. I will admit that I still do it sometimesChat Icon

It does get easier. I found once DS was able to roll I felt better about sleeping.

This is so me right now.

Today was really bad, Gavin has been crying on and off all day. I am 99.9% he has gas, even though I am breastfeeding.

I looked on kellymom.com and pretty much there is nothing I can do. It breaks my heart when I see him cry so hard and I try everything to soothe him.

I called the ped and she said try the Mylicon drops, but that may not help either and it just takes time.

I do notice when he bf he gulps and I think my milk is overwhelming him, because sometimes he chokes and pulls away.

This was a really hard day for me Ladies, I am in tears right now writing this because I am tired and just feel so bad I can't take away the pain he is in.

That was me too. I would usually just start to doze off as my daughter would wake up. Now when #2 comes I know there is NO way I will be able to do that either.

Jamie, I am struggling with one right now, I can't even imagine having two at this point.

Did it get easier as time went on with your daughter and sleeping?

Do you think since you have been through it already once, it will be easier to sleep with #2?

Early on I never was able to relax when she did. Once I went back to work though, on weekends when she naps I totally take the chance to lay in bed and catch up on some tvChat Icon

Yes, I went through the same thing too. Once the baby fell asleep i tried to nap but my mind was thinking about what I needed to get done next. I still have not taken a nap and she is just about 13 months old.

I was the worst! My Mom would come and help and my DH would beg me to sleep and I just couldn't. Even if I went up to bed I could not sleep. The few random times I slept, I would bring DS upstairs with me to nap -- it made me feel better with him there next to me.

But, once he started sleeping better at night I started sleeping better and felt somewhat normal again.

It gets better!!

Mylicon works well. I had the same problem with oversupply. Try BF from the same side at the next feeding rather than switching. Also feeding th baby in a more upright position helps.

In answer to the original question, I had and still have difficulty sleeping when the baby sleeps-DD2 is 2months. Try to rest at least, even if you can't sleep. Don't worry about cleaning and other things, that can wait. I'm sorry you are having a hard time. It will get easier.

Re: Does anyone have a hard time sleeping even when the baby sleeps?

I remember the beginning. I didn't nap either. I used to do laundry, clean the house or just sit on the computer because I couldn't nap. I was afraid I would sleep through DD's cries.

It does get better. It is just a gradual process.

As far as BFing and gas, Mylicon works, but also there are ways to help release some gas. There are ways to massage the babies stomach, ride the bike with their legs, or if it is really bad, use a rectal thermometer and just put the tip in and hold it for a few seconds. Either you will get some puffs of gas coming out or poop. Either way, you will get relief.

Do take a look at what you are eating, though. My DD hated when I had onions. It caused the worst gas for her usually a day after I ate it.

After my son aidan was born I was up for the first 6 weeks! Longest day of my life! Add to that postpartum depression!! Phew!
We all go through it, but it will pass, sleep will come again I slowly learned, lol.
