Does anyone have a Nikon D80?
Is it too much to handle for someone who doesn't know much about photography (but wants to learn)?

I got the D40X b/c the D80 was physically larger and not as comfortable for me to hold. I went to Cameta Camera and played around with both before I made a decision.

Re: Does anyone have a Nikon D80?
I am saving for one. I have the Nikon N80 (the film version)
I think if you're just learning the D40X would be enough. Look at the specs. You might not need all of the bells and whistles on the D80..and any of the cameras can be put on automatic, but that's kind of a waste of such an awesome camera.
I would get a book about the basic principles of photography - exposure, aperture/depth of field, composition, etc etc... If you don't know about that, learning the specifics of the camera won't do anything for you
ETA: If you google Nikon D40X v D80, everyone says go for the D80 if you can afford it. it seems that if you want to go beyond just point and shoot it's annoying because it's menu based and there are few external controls (so as not to intimidate newcomers to the format). I think you need to go into a camer store and hold both cameras in your hands. I did that to choose my N80. It was the one that felt the best and was the most intuitive to me. I didn't even really consider the D40X. I'm just waiting longet for the D80. I have about $350 saved! WOO!

I would love one, but it was too much camera for me. I ended up getting the D50, and now I wish I had gotten the D80. I know Lorimarie has one and she takes gorgeous pics!
