nikon d40x vs d80
is it worth the extra 300+ for the d80 or for a entry level slr would the d40x be fine ? its for recreational/amateur photog purposes.. nothing super fancy but if for 300$ it makes a big difference id tend to splurge i see theres a ton of slr people on here so i figured id ask here while im looking at cnet and other sites

I went to Cameta Camera and held them both. The d80 is a bigger camera and I wasn't as comfortable with it. You should see if you can get to a store to try them out yourself and see how you feel.

I would say unless you are really into photography - stick with the D40x. I have a D70 (discontinued, new version is D40x) & it's perfectly fine.
You could use the extra $300 towards a good zoom lens.

Re: nikon d40x vs d80
I have the D40x and I am extremelly happy. The D80 is a GREAT camera but it was a bit too much of a camera for me (price, size and features). The D40x was perfect for me. I will spend the difference in price towards a better lense.
