Re: Does anyone have experience pleading Not Guilty to a Seat Belt and Cell Phone Ticket-- Please Help

I was fighting a visual speeding ticket at tvb and there were people who were fighting cell phone and seat belt tickets. The seat belt tickets most people said they took their seat belt off when they saw they were being pulled over to get their insurance card/registration. Most got off of that one. The cell phone one I saw the woman gave every excuse in the book and she still got the ticket.

They since has closed suffolk tvb and now reopened and now they do plea deals.

A few years ago dh had to go to hempstead court for a work truck ticket and they did deals with everyone. It was like watching a game show-people were screaming take the deal. Chat Icon

My DH used to hate when he wrote someone a summons for doing something clearly wrong and they would have the balls to go to court and fight it and lie under oath to the judge and pretty much call my DH a liar as well. Saying they did not run that red light. When they did. Swearing under oath they didn't do it. Meanwhile he is thinking- I don't write summons for shits and giggles. If I wrote you, you clearly broke the law. I wasn't writing a summons because it's just such great sport!
If you do something wrong and get caught pay the fine. Man or woman up and admit you were wrong and face the consequence. I do things wrong, I admit it.
I got a ticket for an expired inspection recently. It suckss but I paid it because it was my own dumb fault for being late on it. Not the cop who wrote it.
People need to start taking responsibility for their actions.

If you don't want to get tickets--it's simple. Wear your seat belt, don't talk on the phone while driving, etc.

The tickets themselves say if you plead not guilty and then are found guilty your fine can be increased. Has this happened to anyone?

I think a lot depends on where you get the ticket. If it was anywhere in the 5 boroughs of NYC, I would advise just paying it- it's pretty stringent there and I think fines can go up if you please not guilty and are found guilty.

I got a speeding ticket in Westchester and went to court to plead it out- I plead "not guilty" on the back of the ticket, but once I was in the court, there was an ADA there that you could talk to to plead down the fine and points (I think I plead it down to a blown stop sign or something). Pretty much everyone inthe courtroom was doing the same thing. No matter what, he'll have to pay some sort of fine, so it might just be easier to pay the ticket.

I hope it works out for you! Chat Icon

And honestly guys, maybe enough with the sanctimonious responses? OP was just asking for people's experiences with pleading not guilty to tickets, not how to get away with murder.
