Does anyone here have Aflac?
The Aflac guy is here and I'm wondering if anyone uses it...if you'd recommend it. We've got Short Term Disability, Cancer Indemnity and Accident Indemnity. Would you recommend any of those? Any must haves? is it REALLY necessary?

i have aflac cancer insurance and the accidental insurance. i think it is great and even if you leave your job you can still keep the insurance as long as you pay for it.

Cancer - definitely. Totally worth it. Maybe Short term disability but check and see what your company's policy covers first. I would bother with the accident.

I have short and long-term disability. I think both are absolutely necessary. I also have accident insurance (it's called something awful like accident and dismemberment insurance - ??) I think that is necessary as well.
I don't think I have cancer indemnity. I've honestly never heard of that before - exactly what does that cover over and above short or long-term disability and regular medical insurance?

I have the Cancer, Accident, and short term disabilty for my whole family. Any claim I've ever put through, I have had no problem and I got a check in two/three days.

My friend purchased the cancer coverage & had it for a year. Went to cancel it.. Luckily HR never processed the paperwork. She was diagnosed with very early stages of breast cancer.
It gave her something like $275/day for radiation, plus a $7K one time payment for cancer. I know for her the money came in very handy.
If I could purchase AFLAC for DH, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
STD I strongly suggest.

i have aflac and used it when i was out on maternity leave. it paid a good portion of my salary while i was out,in addition to nys disability.

DH has it through his job and I am on it too, but my coverage is just catastrophic.
We have used it for DH though, he is an EMT for the FDNY and twice he has had to go on LODI and they gave us nice checks.
It is totally worth the $30 or whatever per check.

I think I'm sold on short term disability. It will definitely help with maternity leave. And one person said to me- think of the payment as a little savings account - it's not like throwing away money 'just incase' -so that sealed it for me. Thanks everyone!

we only have the accident now- but plan on adding the cancer, short term dis and something else
our friend is the regional manager- so I want him to come over and explain everything to me - I have been waiting

Does it pay you even if you are still getting paid by your job??? I work for the city, and will still get paid on maternity leave but, I will be losing out on overtime which helps cover the mortgage....

I didn't know that you can use aflac for maternity leave. Good to know! Which Aflac plan is that covered under?

yup! It's with the Short term disability plan. That's what I ended up getting.
