Does Anyone Know This Answer? Re: Taking a Childcare Leave From NYC Schools
If you take a childcare leave from the city (whether it be one year or all 4 years) are you ALOWED to work full time outside of the city hwhile on leave? If not, would they ever "really" no? I am THINKING of OPTIONS if I have another child and one option that I thought would be GREAT is it I got a full-time teaching job or an Asst Director job at a daycare where I can bring my kids to work with me for perhaps free or at a very reduced rate and I'd still bring home more then I was making weekly if I continued in the city and paid upward of $600 for daycare for two kids. Any advice, input?
Thank you:)

Yes, they told me any job that was on the books was not allowed. You are however allowed to take a leave for one year with the right of return to your postion if you are leaving to do another job. I think it is considered a different leave, not a maternity one.

You can take a leave of absence but you are only guaranteed a job, not necessarily the one you had.

I have been on childcare leave for 6 yrs. You are allowed to work but only 20 hrs per week on the books. I do it and I have checked with the city and the UFT.

That's what I love about the city, they never give everyone the same answer. I have a coworker who is taking an additional maternity year, I'm going to let her know this!

i know you can't work full time outside the city because their rationale is why can't you work your doe job if you can work somewhere else i would think part time might be okay cause you can even work part time for the doe while on child care leave
