Does Anyone's Company Offer a Gas Allowence?
We were just informed at my job that they are giving us a "rebate" of sorts to help ease the pain at the pump.
It's a three tiered program and based on where you live is how they determine what you get. The three tiers are $10, $20 & $30 a MONTH. Now I KNOW they don't have to give us ANYTHING but I just can't help but feel like this is a bit of a slap in the face.
I mean what the heck am I supposed to do with $20 a month?? That's $5 a week!! Gas is over $4 a gallon so basically I get a free 1.1 gallons of gas. Thanks, that's a HUGE help. 
Now here's the kicker... They said in the memo that the "executive staff and sales staff" will not be eligible for this program. This made me laugh b/c the execs and sales staff DON'T pay for their gas!! The COMPANY gives them company cars, PAY for their GAS, PAY for their CAR PAYMENTS, PAY for their INSURANCE and PAY for their MAINTENANCE! They pay NOTHING for their cars so NO KIDDING they're not eligible for this program!!! 
Again, I COMPLETELY understand that they owe us NOTHING but come on. We have people that work for us who make minimum wage and CAN'T AFFORD to come to work b/c they CAN'T AFFORD their gas and THIS is what they give?? Come on.
Well, anyway, what are your thoughts? Does your company offer such a program? If so, how do they do it?

 My company do something nice like that. Let me get up off the floor.
No, we don't get a gas allowance or anything like that.
I know that $10-30 doesn't sound like much when it costs a fortune to fill up a tank but at least they are doing something. Try looking at them paying the ridiculous jump in prices in the past couple of months - gas used to be around $3 so they are picking up the $1.25 for 16 gallons. It sounds like more then 1.1 gallons of gas per week.

My DH has a gas allowance, he's allowed to charge up to a certain amount a month in his company vehicle.

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth. At least you are getting something. We get reimbursed for mileage beyond our ordinary commute because we do a lot of driving out to schools.

$30 a month equals $360 a year. If they saved it up and gave it to you in one shot, I am sure it would make you feel happier 
Take it and run. A lot of people don't get even that. If you don't think it is "much" to cover gas then take the $30 a month and go out for dinner

I'm not getting $30 a month, only $20.
And yes, I totally understand they don't have to give us this, but I find it frustrating b/c we all know that the execs are making 6 figure salaries, getting bonuses AND having their company cars FULLY paid for.
I just think this company could have been alittle more generous.

We don't have any kind of gas allowance, they'd never do anything like that!! I wish we were getting something, anything would help, but I certainly understand your frustration too.

considering DH's commute (70miles/day), I would be THRILLED with $20-$30. In our Honda, that's half ($20) or 3/4 ($30) of a tank = 3 days of commuting. His company offers nothing though and neither does mine (but i commute via LIRR)
