Does DS really need the iPad or will the iTouch suffice?

DS is getting the iTouch for xmas, he was just diagnosed with PDD. He is getting it from his grandmother. We cannot afford the iPad but maybe if we return/exchange the iTouch for an iPad we can afford the difference, though it would still be tight.

So, is the iPad *that* much better for him vs. the iTouch? We have our own laptop, I'm not interested in what we can do with it, this is strictly about DS and what it can do for him.

Are the apps the same? I mean if the apps function the same on both devices than we'll save the money on an exchange for a class I'm trying to get him into and every dollar we have these days is basically spent before we get it if you know what I mean. But if it that much better then we'll get the iPad. Advice is greatly appreciated! Chat Icon

Honestly, I did not have the money for an ipad and I don't trust him at 4yo to handle it with care. So we have an itouch. It's great for now. It's portable and more than 1/2 the price.

yet, I can always upgrade to an ipad later down the road. I think in 1-2 years. Some for the apps will still be compatible from the itouch to the ipad.

Itouch is fine.

Unless he ever gets his hands on an ipad and then he may like that better. That happened to us. He does not use his itouch anymore because he prefers my ipad. He will only use the touch if I don't have the ipad with me.

We have an iTouch, but only use it in limited situations because my DS tends to fixate on it too much. For us, the iTouch is enough and I like that it is smaller and more portable.
