Hope the process is over for you ASAP!

I have one of my lower back, right side. I think getting belly button pierced hurt a lot more that the tattoo did.
I definately agree with this! Getting my bellybutton pierced hurt me really bad.

Kathy
That def. is proof positive to make SURE you want a tattoo before you get one.. because the removal process looks a helluva lot worse to me

Re: Does getting a Tatoo hurt?
I have a bunch(9, to be exact) , and it definitely depends where you get it. The ones on my ankles and thigh did not hurt, nor did the 2 on my lower back, but the wings on my shoulders hurt like h e l l. It was very bad, and I was covering an old tattoo. The original tattoos on my shoulders did not hurt that much, but the cover-up killed me. Also, the inkwork that was close to the top of my shoulder, like near my neck was bad b/c once the needle hit a pressure point, my muscles cramped up. It was also a long tattoo to get, with 13 hours so far and 8 hours of work still left to go.

she has to get it re colored often because the ink "rubs off" from her shoes.
I've heard that. A lot of places won't even do one on the foot b/c of that...
I had to get my toes re-done about 4 times b/c of that. Finally I just gave up on one b/c it was getting to wonky. The other still looks ok though.
once I finish my back (somethine this century) I think DH & I are going to get matching tats, but we have not decided 100% yet. I hate it b/c I want to go to law school, and I feel like I have to be super-careful where I get anything b/c I will need to cover it
ETA, I wanted to get one behind my ear, but it will be too hard to cover if I have to wear my hair back

I think it depends alot on your threshold for pain. I kind of liked the feeling because I was doing something so cool.

Re: Does getting a Tatoo hurt?
I know I know - its soooo bad - it was more gross in person and it oozed for days and I had to take a day off from work becuase I couldnt work! I have to go through it again because I needed more than 1 session (the ink was very deep). I keep putting it off because the pain was so bad and it was a lot of $$
I decided to remove it because A) its my least favorite and B) because I have 3 on my ankles alone and Im just very embarassed by it. You should see the looks I get if Im wering shorts (which is why I dont wear them anymore). I want to get the other 2 removed on my ankles too but I dont think I can.
I know thos pics are disgusting...but I just want you all to make sure you really want them before you get them! Especially color tattoos which cannot be removed fully with a laser.
Sorry I made you all LOL!!

Re: Does getting a Tatoo hurt?
When Im all done with the removal there may (or may not) be a slight shadow of the tattoo - a very light scar tissue type thing. But as of right now I have zero scaring and you can see where the color came out totally - looks great! Besides, anything is an improvement from having a tattoo I hate! I am happy with the results so far. I'll probably continue with the removal in the fall. It's too hard in the summer because you cant get it wet and you really shouldnt put it in the sun.
They did numb my leg with something similar to novicane (like the dentist) so it took the edge off the pain while they were doing it. but as that wore off it started to really hurt and it was swollen and irritated.
How it works is: its a type of paste (called Rejuvi) and they use a tattoo gun and tattoo the paste into your existing tattoo. Once that paste is in your skin, it essentially grabs on to the colored ink. Once it grabs on to the ink, it pulls it to the surface of your skin and forms as scab (as you can see from my pictures). The scab forms and you can see all the colors of the tattoo. When that scab falls off (takes about 4-6 wks), the color that was in the scab comes off too. Your skin then heals over and its like a very light scar type tissue (I cant think of a better way to describe it). It takes about 6+ months to completely heal and you can't get it done again until that time - they don't want to damage your skin so you have to be all healed. The problem with todays tattoos is they are all professional and the ink is very deep in your skin so that's why more than one treatment on each area is needed.
If anyone has any questions feel free to FM me! I promise I wont send any gross pictures!

Re: Does getting a Tatoo hurt?
Ouch!
I totally agree though...definitely really think about what you want and where you want it. Tat's should have meaning to you - they shouldn't be something you do b/c it's a fad or b/c everyone you know is doing it. (So NOT saying that's what you did Kathy!)
Personally, I only like black tat's...however my SIL got a red one on the inside of her bi-cep and it's HOT! Definitely made me re-think my "only black rule".

Re: Does getting a Tatoo hurt?
I thought it did. I have a small one on my upper thigh - a purple rose winding around a peace symbol - and I thought it was horrible. My friend got hers first - in basically the same place-and she told me it didn't hurt. So I was cursing at her while I got mine done. Truthfully, I think I was being a baby, but I seem to remember it hurting a lot.

Re: Does getting a Tatoo hurt?
I JUST saw your pics, Kathy... You have made me rethink REMOVING my belly tattoo! I hadn't heard about the method used on your to remove, only the laser treatments. Actually, can we see the progress of that tat, now? I'm curious to see what it looks like now.... I'm assuming weeks later.

Re: Does getting a Tatoo hurt?
The one on my left ankle didnt hurt too bad. When the guy first started I said wow this is not bad, then he hit a bone and wowsers that hurt.
The one on my right ankle didnt hurt too bad either but when he hit the bone it hurt.
My right hip did not hurt. It is all fat
my lower back was a good pain. Here is a pic of it when I just had it done. THe tips of the flames is what hurt the most. It honestly felt like a razor blade was going over my skin. The middle part wasnt that bad. It did hurt because its right on the spine, but tolerable
This is the one on my hip
Sorry I dont have pics of the ones on my ankles.
I am going for another one eventually. I want a band on my ankle underneath my dolphin
