my Mom likes to pop in, and she comes just as DH & I sitting down to dinner, or after 8pm which is basically bedtime for us.
She is the worst, it makes me nuts. She stays forever too. I have told her flat out not to do it, but she doesn't listen. Now everytime she comes she has a gift for me, rich, the kids or the dog so I can't even be mad at her.

I HATE it!! My best friend or family, okay. Everybody else (especially the in laws who do it all the time) CALL!!!!
I know that sounds horrible, it is okay for my family and not his, but my family always calls. His never does.
In fact, when we were moving into our apartment I made it clear that I didn't want anybody there (from either family) until I was done. I wanted it to be presentable and of course, his mother shows up when I am in the middle of cleaning and I am supposed to freakin entertain. NO WAY.
Sorry, for the vent.

I hate hate hate when people do this!!! One of my biggest pet peeves. I usually just don't answer the door and that's how I solve it

My family lives across the country but even my SIL who lives here calls first- even if she is in the car already. I would be shocked if someone just "dropped in" and not too pleased about it.

Not really. My sister lives next door with my niece and nephew and BIL and they pop in just about everyday. The rest of my family lives within a mile of my house so we have regular unexpected guests. I am pg so if I don't feel good or up to company I am honest and I just tell them.

FYI: My father just stopped by, lol... he brought Juliette ice pops. Was the house clean-ehhh... mostly. DIshes in the sink bc we were waiting for appliances to be delivered. Annoying-a little... He has the best intentions so it's hard to get mad at him.

I know someone who NOT only "pops by" but will just COME in... meaning, they don't KNOCK!!!
I have a friend whose neighbor will see her or her DH in the kitchen or in the Living Room and be like "Hey!" and just walk on in!!!! (I mean, I guess it's easier to do in the summer because the windows and screens are usually open but recently, for example, her DH was cooking in the kitchen and she just CAME in the side door (there's a screen- sliding glass door) and just walked into the kitchen- her DH was startled! And she was like "what's for dinner?" and basically invited herself.
She does this ESPECIALLY when they have other friends over-- she just "joins the group" even if she doesn't really know the people!!! 
I told my friend that I thought this was INSANE and how could she stand it??!! I would put my house up for sale! What do you say to someone like that?!

Doesn't really bother me. I love to talk and chat. My house is usually clean, if not, oh well. Lifes to short to care. I used to hate when my mil used to just pop in, now that doesn't even bother me. I love when my mom comes.

Next time she comes, answer the door, but don't let her in. Act rushed and say "I JUST put the kids down and have a ton to do, now's not a good time. Why don't you give me a call later in the week and we can do lunch or something. Sorry."
That or don't answer.
That would drive me nuts.

It depends on who it is...some of my real close friends, I wouldn't care.
I really don't have that problem though, everyone I know calls...even if they are just in the area and want to say hello.

if it happens again, i think i am going to have to try this....oh and I forgot to mention, a lot of times my front door is unlocked, and she WILL walk right in
And to clarify, if it were my parents, brothers/sister...I wouldnt mind the "pop up" at all...I love when my family visits.

My friends and family would have to call if they wanted to just pop in. They have no idea how to get to my house.
They are not traveling 1200 miles to ring my bell and I not be home 
But if one of my friends or family from NY just popped in I wouldnt mind, I'd find it to be a big surprise.
