Does my 7 week old sleep too much?

I was reading the book "baby whisperer" and she was saying that infants around my Ds's age should take three 1 and 1/2 hour naps throughout the day, but i find that my DS pretty much takes a nap after each time i feed him for about an hour. I BF so I feed him every 3 to 3 1/2 hours. think he takes about 4 to 5 naps b/c when it comes to 7, he has his witching hour and is up until 10. He seems to be sleeping more and eating more starting yesterday - could be a growth spurt. I just think he sleeps alot. Should I do more to stimulate him? I hear my friends doing all these activities (?) with their kids and they are only 3 weeks old!

At 7 weeks old IMO they are still getting their rhythm. If you are really worried ask the Ped.

DS slept almost all day & all night until he was 2 months at least.Chat Icon

as long as he is alert and responding when he is up there is nothing bad about it. My DD is 4 m, and sleeps alot too, A LOT!

I agree with this post....

DS started the "routine naps" (if you can even call them that) at 2mths. In the next week or two you may begin to see small patterns in his day/night behaviour.

if he's sleeping, LET HIM SLEEP!! trust me, it'll change! people told me the same thing and now i laugh at how "awake" DS is throughout the day! Trust me, it'll just happen one day on it's own.

At 7 weeks DD slept when she wanted...mostly during the day. There's not much you can do to keep them awake at that point, plus then all that does is make them cranky. Every baby is different, but I think the general opinion is to let them sleep. You're DS will probably start to be awake more in a few weeks.

i don't even know why i am complaining! i probably will be missing this stage very soon! sometimes when you hear what your friend's kids do makes you question your own.

Girlllllllllllllllllllllllllll you better count your lucky stars now because that will surely change. Unless of course he is a sleeper than you are extra extra lucky b/c you wont have many problems with him waking up over night. I used to worry about this too but then after awhile if DS slept i let him sleep and sleep and sleep if he wanted to I didnt even wake him up to eat. Baby's will wake up to eat if they are hungry which is what my mom told me and that is surely true. So dont worry about it right now girl. Sit back and relax and read a book or take a relaxing bubble bath while DS is sleeping.
