That does seem like a bit much, yeah. I'm new to this class gift thing though. Are you supposed to contribute and then get a small personal gift too??

Re: Does this seem a bit much?
See I think because you are looking at it as one gift. $50 as a whole seems like a lot, $50 break it down to four people is like $20 to the head teacher $10 for the assistants. That to me sounds more reasonable. I could be wrong but the OP gives her bus driver $20 which is about what or more than the head teacher would get. I would normally give the bus driver less than my child's head teacher, but that is just me. Maybe it depends on where you are but my older daughter's preschool collected something similar twice a year (holiday and end of the year). But we were instructed no additional gifts. My younger DD's school we gave $20 (no assists) but everyone have an additional gift on top of that, so it winds up being more.

It's really up to you. I would say it is 1/3... some people give the class gift and nothing else, others do the class gift and a personal gift, the rest don't give the class gift and do their own gift. It is whatever you feel comfortable with.

That's what I am saying. $20 for a teacher gift and $10 for each assistant is really not excessive IMO. Heck, people on this site tip movers and hair dressers more for a one time service than their children's teachers?? That's just crazy to me. These people spend all day with your kids teaching them and making sure they are safe and happy, why not show a little appreciation. These people don't even make that much money.

Re: Does this seem a bit much?
I don't think that's excessive, that's how much the class moms suggested for dd's class, 1 teacher, 3 assistants and 18 kids. If I was doing it on my own I would have spent more.
