DS is 3 years (2 mos) and can zip his winter coat. His sweatshirt is a little sticky and he has trouble.
Never gave it a thought....maybe I should start saving more for college?

My DS could do it on an "easy" zipper when he was 3... one that wasn't sticky and didn't require any fiddling.

At 2.5 DS could zip and un-zip, but I have to put the pieces together.
He is a master at getting completely undressed in 3 seconds flat, if you were curious

She can zip but I have to put it together for her.
Although, I've never tried to teach her to put it together herself. This will be tomorrow's new thing. Last time I read here about a 3 year old dressing themselves I realized I never gave her a chance to do it. Lo and behold, the next day she did it all by herself.

My son's pre-school teacher taught them a few months ago. He was 3.5. He will still have some issues with some sometimes but can pretty much do it 99% of the time. For the record, I didnt even think about this, or teaching him it. LOL
My almost 19 month old girl just learned too, thanks to her older brother although its more like 50% of the time with her and she scares me with her dexterity..she can also undo highchair locks, car seat locks, open baby gates, pull up blinds ...you get my drift...she is 'not' the norm. Her twin cant even begin to do any of those.
So I think its just a matter of when they are taught .

DS did it closer to 4, but I was an enabler he was my only child and I did everything for him and he is NOT very independent. His 3 yr old pre-k teachers said he should start to put on his own coat etc at age 3-3 1/2 so I think its great that she zip it herself.

Alright, well, I'll file away that application for MIT I started filling out.
I definitely was one of those enabling moms with DD#1, so it was very surprising to me to turn around one day and DD#2 not only put her jacket on by herself, but zipped the whole thing up.
I'm going to leave them alone from now on. Next plan: buy shoes with laces and see how long it takes them to figure it all out.

DD did it at 4. But I don't think I ever really fave her the opportunity to do it herself before.

Eddie is 3 and can put on and zipper his own jacket.....with that said he still cant get his shirt off properly without almost strangling himself, LOL

HA! Same here. He will sit there and try to connect the 2 pieces together by himself but i get tired of waiting so I get him started. LOL. He can do it though, I just don't give him the time
