Does your child fit in his carseat with his winter jacket???

Yesterday we went to my brothers baseball playoff games. We were out all day so I put Megans heavy jacket on since it was really cold.

Only thing is..she didnt fit in her carseat with it! Even when I made the straps as long as they could go, she was so squished! I wound up taking the jacket off. Is this what I am going to have to do all winter long???? Seems a little silly.

Does your child fit and if so, how?? Chat Icon

I have been avoiding this by putting layers on dd. the winter jacket she has is so warm but bulky, so I haven't even used it yet. I used blankets too, I guess if she were to be outside for awhile I will just bring her winter coat, she has only really been from the house to car, into store, etc.

I miss the bundle me with our infants !

I think somewhere, maybe in the carseat instructions or something, I dunno, it says that you shouldn't put a baby in a carseat in a big winter jacket because the car seat will not fit correctly and so may not work properly if in an accident.

ETA We just put a small hoodie on him and use a blanket when popping in and out of the car. I have a jacket for him when we're outside for extended periods.

This is what we were told when we left the NICU and it is the reason that people buy the Bundle Me. The nurses reviewed carseat instructions with us. They also told us that it is best not to use the head support because it may push the baby's head down and block breathing.

The nurse told us the same thing...she recommended using receiving blankets and rolling them on each side of them for support.

I usually put them in a hoody zip sweatshirt and put a blanket on them.

I tried the jacket thing once and it was too bulky. DD is in a convertible seat now so I just put a thick blanket over her.

If you put a thick jacket on, in an accident the coat can compress from the force and then the child can be ejected from the seat.

Im having the same problem....so you guys just bring them out of the house without the coat and keep it in the car. I feel like that she will be so cold without a jacket, even if its just from the house to the car. Chat Icon

I will put a blanket around her, but I'm just going from the car to house, house to car for a total of about 30 seconds, so I don't think she gets too cold.

We used blankets, and remote-started the car, so it was comfy-cozy before we got in. DC had some sort of heavy shirt/outfit, but not a full jacket. Just carry the jacket in the car, in case you need it after you arrive. It's best not to have a jacket on them in the car seat.

Yep--Got the same advice about the blankets. I didn't think of the idea with the hoodie sweatshirt but it sounds great and I shall try it!!!!! It is something warm and cozy and not too bulky for the carseat.

I was told what the PPs said, which was that you shouldn't put a winter jacket on DC with the carseat straps b/c if god forbid you got into an accident, the straps would be against the jacket and not DC.

I put DS in hoodies and hat. And we have the Eddie Bauer version of a bundle me too.
