In the Jewish religion, the ring used for the wedding ceremony is supposed to be continuous, with no breaks in it. No stones or engravings are allowed. I used my mother's old wedding band for my ceremony and then changed to my eternity band after the ceremony.
I don't know why she told you that yours has no religious significance though. All that matters is that it has significance to YOU!

She's really something, isn't she? Can she not afford a diamond wedding band?
Besides, that's a Jewish thing - and even then depending on how religious the person is it only pertains to the actual wedding ceremony - not every day. My best friend is Jewish and her wedding band has plenty of diamonds!

not sure if thats true or not!
My rabbi said it can be whatever you want as long as it is round. I know all rings are round but her point was that the round shape symbolizes the circle of life. It also has no beginning and no end, two as one. Yada Yada all that sappy stuff.
Yes, my ring has diamonds.

i knew something was come up because the other night we all went out and her FH was like "OMG, you have diamonds in your wedding bands!?!?" i said yea, and thought nothing of it. she says her FH is trying to be respectful to the Catholic religion, but meanwhile its not even a Catholic practice. this coming from the man who said "i dont have to go to Church, it doesnt say it in the Bible!"...i'm so annoyed with this whole thing! since they got engaged, hes constantly comparing the 2 of them to me and DH!!!

I've never heard of that before and I would say that SIL is bitter or jealous, apparently someone isn't getting diamonds on their wedding band and is looking for a way to make herself feel better about it. Her solution is to make you feel bad about yours.

My Jewish Godmother said that I had to be married with a solid gold band. No end no beginning.
I didn't listen, mine has diamonds. I'm not Jewish.

Mine have diamonds but we are not religious. I have heard that the circle, according to Judeo-Christian custom cannot be broken, therefore any settings would break the "perfect" circle....

Sound like your SIL is turning into a bridezilla! I believe it's the Jewish faith that the wedding band be a continuous circle with no "breaks". So maybe they diamonds constitute the "breaks".
So, I guess your SIL is converting to Judaism? 
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong anyone!!!!
P.S. Tell your SIL to get a grip and worry about her own wedding, in a "sweet-as-pie" way of course!

yup, i have diamonds in my band. we aren't religious (didn't have a church ceremony) but i'd love for someone to please tell me where it says that diamonds in wedding bands are "non-religious"
I have diamonds-- and I have no idea where the connection between diamonds and being non-religious comes into play.
I know that a few years ago when diamond crosses were really popular the Pope came out and said that he felt that was "wrong" because we are focusing more on vanity or something than the meaning-- but that's for a cross. He said he preferred regular gold crosses but hey- that's gold! what's the diff between diamonds or gold? So that was weird.
And again, that was crosses- not wedding bands- odd.
She's probably just bitter that your wedding band is sparkly LOL

Both mine & DH's rings that we were married with have diamonds. DH also has a plain gold band to wear to work and I later went & got a 'work' band after I lost a stone out of my wedding band when I started in a new position.

Wedding bands are a person thing - your friend really shouldn't have commented on it at all!
My FI and I just bought our wedding rings. We have matching bands with no diamonds, and I also have a diamond eternity band.
