In the Jewish religion, the ring used for the wedding ceremony is supposed to be continuous, with no breaks in it. No stones or engravings are allowed. I used my mother's old wedding band for my ceremony and then changed to my eternity band after the ceremony.
I don't know why she told you that yours has no religious significance though. All that matters is that it has significance to YOU!

What about the metal markings on the band? I mean, even our plain bands came engraved with 950 platinum or whatever. Does that count? (I'm really sorry if that's a dumb question)

I got married in DH's aunt's wedding ring which was gold. After the ceremony I switched it over to my 5 diamond band.

i have a diamond eternity band that matches my e-ring.
If you're jewish, that's probably what she's refering to. In jewish religion you're supposed to have a solid band -- no patterns, stones, nadda. The theory is that because marriage has no value a symbol of it should not either. I got married in a plain band but never wear it.

No. More a reflection of my own sentiments and ideas than religious ideology. I don't diss rings with diamonds though, its just how I felt about my own ring and what we wanted.

I actually have two bands, the one w/o diamonds we used for the ceremony and Ill wear every so often, but my everday one has diamonds.

I have one with diamonds that matches my e-ring, and then a plain one that matches DHs that the rabbi made me get for the ceremony. We had an interfaith ceremony so we had to make both the rabbi and the deacon happy.

The priest blessed my diamond wedding band. I think the no diamond band has to do with the jewish faith. I think it has to be a plain gold band ring.

my SIL just told me that her FH said that mine and DH's wedding bands are "wrong" because we have diamonds in them. because now our rings have no "religious" meaning. W T F? anyone ever heard of this????
