Dog and eating dry food plain vs dry food with wet food mixed in
Would anyone else's dog rather starve than eat the dry food plain? Because I think my dog does. Someone must have gotten him hooked on his food this way - but the vet said its a bad idea because the dry food is good for his teeth. I can't even just put in a little bit of wet food, because then he will just pick that all out and leave the rest. So either its all totally covered in wet food or he doesn't eat. I've been told - if he's hungry he'll eat. Give it a week, and he'll learn. Well its been a week and he'd rather not eat. At the end of the day when I guess he is starving he'll eat maybe half of what I put out in the morning. So that's about a cup a day for a 60+lb dog. I know that's not enough. Should I just give in and start giving the wet food again, or will he really learn? Sorry this was so long.

You can buy certain gravies and things for picky eaters to squirt on the food. It will still be crunchy and good for his teeth when he eats but it will be coated with something yummy.

Re: Dog and eating dry food plain vs dry food with wet food mixed in
when we adopted our dog from the shelter they said he was on a half of can wet and then 2 cups dry 2x a day. we never once gave him wet food. we just used warm water the first few days and everyday did less and less water till he just ate it.
My pug on the other hand, when we got him he was on a wet/dry mix too. he didn't eat I think for 2 or 3 days when we didn't give him the wet. but when he got hunry enough, he ate the dry, and has been on dry only since then.
they also sell gravies to put over the food. But again, its not the best thing for them, so I don't even know if I would start that.

It's the same as a picky kid. Eventually they will eat. He won't starve himself.
I never give Dallas wet fod because it makes him fart. Room- clearing farts!

My dog is the same way, what I do is take a tablespoon of wet food and just coat the dry food enough that it's barely there and she always eats it.
It is better to feed a dog dry food, because it's better for the teeth but just make sure that you brush his or her teeth daily or get a chew toy that is made for this.

Thanks everyone! We've tried the gravy, and it actually gives him diarrhea. I tried the water thing a few days ago and it worked, but then he went back to not eating it again. I guess he'll eventually get it. He's pooping and peeing, so I guess he's not starving himself. Why are these dogs so picky?
