Dog peeing on our bed! Sorry long...

Hi girls. I never really post on this board but I am having an issue. I am due to have a baby in two weeks time and I think it is starting to affect my dog Chat Icon

About a month ago, the night of Easter, we had both of our families over and he was just acting super hyper. That night he peed on our bed. I chalked it up to him being over-excited that day.

Then yesterday DH and I went to my parents house for the day and left him home because we had to stop at the store on the way home and he did it again.

Both times it wasn't like he had an emergency to go and it was also right before bedtime. He has also just recently been to the vet so I know it's not a UTI.

When he peed it was A LOT not just a trickle. So last night after that I decided he is not allowed to sleep or be on our bed anymore but since we can't really control that when we are sleeping I gated him in the kitchen. He kept barking to be let out and finally I just slept in the living room (right next to kitchen) and he finally stopped somewhat.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do? I would really like to nip this in the bud before the baby comes. I don't want to have to deal with dirty diapers and drenched comforters all at the same time.

Thanks for reading this if you got this far!

Is it possible your dog is sensing changes in the home and is nervous/anxious? Is your dog getting as much attention and exercise and walks/play as before? This is where i would start thinking about first, if the dog def doesn't have a UTI.

Your dog is probably anxious and that's where it is coming from. I would not make too many changes too quickly as not to stress your dog out.

Our dog started doing this towards the end of my pregnancy too. We actually had to re-crate her for about a month or so, and none of our dogs are allowed in our bedroom when we are not home. We keep the bedroom door closed until we go to bed.

The dog needs to adjust too, it might take a few days or a few weeks...

So do you think it would be okay to leave him out of the bedroom except for when we are in there or sleeping at night?

I think that sounds like a good compromise.

I've never had a dog, but I was thinking the same thing that Nicole suggested--maybe he needs to be crated when you are not home, or during the night. Just for a little while until he can readjust.

I can relate somewhat--we stopped allowing our cat into our bedroom because he came in and would regularly vomit on our off-white carpet Chat Icon I know he didn't mean it, but I can totally understand your frustration about the clean-up. As you said, the last thing you need is to be taking care of a brand new baby and dealing with that kind of aggravation on top of it.

Good luck--maybe run it by your vet and see what he/she says? Chat Icon

See, the fact that it was A LOT, would lead me to believe he HAD to go and wasn't being let out. He chose your bed out of spite.

I'd make sure to let him out 1 more time around this time.

My dog did this a couple weeks ago. My husband forgot to let him out in the morning. So he had to go by afternoon, no one was home. He peed in our bed.
Luckily, we had a new bed on the way anyway. Which now has a mattress protector on it Chat Icon

Since this incident, all bedrooms are closed when we are not home.
So yes, I would close off the bedrooms to him when he isn't home.
