Dogs- Losing hair/hot spots

I have an English bulldog and he had hot spots. He's been on 2 antibotics and sprays and nothing is working. There round circles and there's no hair within the circles. Thoughts?
I think I need a new vet because they seem not to know why it keeps coming back.

I'm not 100% sure if this will help, but maybe it's a possibility:

My cats don't have hot spots, but two of them did have patches where they are missing fur due to excessive cleaning. We took them to the vet, and they both have feline OCD, where they obsessively clean themselves. They were on medication, but they were both allergic to the medication. The vet said that they are better cleaning themselves excessively than having allergic reactions to medication.

They've calmed down quite a bit, and most of their obsessive behaviors have stopped. If they get stressed out though, they will do it. Maybe this could possibly be related?

That actually makes it sound even more like OCD to me.

From About.com, "Some animals have been known to "start" a hot spot out of boredom or stress-related psychological problems."

Maybe even if it's not OCD, it's something mental or psychological as opposed to something physical?

My Sam was loosing his hair, had spots with scabs.... we tried benedryl and cortizone (with my vet's approval) for a while, and it didn't help...

Before bringing him in to see the vet, I decided to change his food, (as I've had a previous pup with food allergies)and saw a 100% difference! Dogs can develope a food allergy really out of no where...

I'd be sure to maybe contact a different vet also...
hth!

Apollo had spots and was scratching like crazy in those areas. He does suffer from allergies however, when we took him to the vet for the spots the vet scraped his skin and diagnosed him with demodex mange he was on meds for about 2 mos and he grew hair back on all the spots and stopped scratching.
