dont move please! cat people- question
please don't move to other board, it doesn't much any traffic..
Are there any cat people who have successfully gotten a 2nd cat? We have 1 and she's pretty nasty with other people- we usually have to lock her downstairs or in a bedroom when we have company because she will hiss at others. Aside from that, she is typically fine around us. Part of us wonders if she would have been better if we brought home one of her siblings when we adopted her, as my neighbors have two cats that are siblings and they are so cute together. Is it a bad idea to introduce a kitten into the household after we've already had her for 5 years? I feel like she will either love the kitten and mother it, or she will literally try to kill it, lol

dont move please! cat people- question
I have 3 cats. Got them all at different times. Took almost a year for the original cat and second cat to get along. It was not an easy process but doable if you are patient. They may not ever be friendly but may tolerate each other. Watch Jackson galaxy on YouTube he has informative videos on introducing cats. It must be a very slow process. We just got a kitten a few months ago. We kept him in our room for over a month. He antagonizes cat #2, but nothing too horrible. Cat #1 has a marked difference in personality since getting the kitten. She was my snuggly cat who would always sleep with me. Now she retreats to the basement and wants nothing to do with me. I find cats very interesting....

Re: dont move please! cat people- question
I have 3 cats. The first two I got within 2 months of each other. One was 9 months and the other was 12 weeks. They get along most of the time. They used to sleep next to each other, but a lot changed when I got number 3.
Number 3 was a nightmare when he was a kitten. He was very anxious and used to pee on exH in the middle of the night. This went on for months and I didn’t sleep well at all during that time. He likes the other cats, but the other cats just tolerate him. The peeing stopped and he turned out to be the sweetest cat ever. He got much better after exH left. He adores my SO.
You never know what you are getting when you get another cat. I had a kitten before Number 3 (sadly he died from FIP at 4 months old) and that kitten got along great with Number 2. It’s different with Number 3 and the other cats.
If you get another cats make sure to do introductions properly and give your cat safe spaces where the kitten can’t get to.
