I know some don't like Dr. Seuss, and that's fine, but am I the only one that is REALLY bothered by the fact that we're essentially BANNING books? People should be free to read what they wish and form their own opinions no matter the text. I don't need anyone making that decision for me, I'm really dismayed at this situation.
In this instance the only one doing the banning is Seuss Enterprises. They are choosing to no longer print them.
I feel uncomfortable trying to rally behind a children’s author that would use the N word.
Then maybe we need to ban all singers that use that and other curses and derogatory lyrics. Have fun stopping your kids listen to that as they won’t ban it as it makes money.
I'm no prude and I am disgusted by the song W.A.P. I'm horrified by it actually. And again, I don't' get offended by much. But the thought of my 10 year old daughter listening to that, turns my stomach
Yep but I don’t see anyone banning it. Some of the songs my kids listen to are horrible. I can’t believe that record companies will allow this but it is all about money. Why do we choose things like Aunt Jemima over things like music that will affect our kids more?
Music with explicit lyrics already comes with a warning. There's a rating system for graphic movies as well. Same for video games. This is so parents can be aware of the type of media their child is consuming and parent accordingly. These things also aren't geared for kids as the target audience like Seuss books are. Why would music made for adults need to be banned because you personally find the lyrics offensive? Just don't listen to it. Why do you feel it's ok to ban some forms of media but not others just because you're personally offended by it? And for the record I'm not defenfing this song. I've never even heard it. Also, nobody banned these Seuss books. His estate pulled them. And seeing as how they were his least popular titles some part of that decision might have been financially motivated. Books go out of print all the time. It has nothing to do with banning them.
Where do I find these explicit lyrics warning? On the cassette my child just bought? Smh. You do realize that usually you hear this music on your teens speakers when they are playing it. This is not 1985 when you buy something for your kid and can see what they will be listening to.

Yep, check out the Holderness family as she did songs from the 90’s compared to ones today. Today though they actually come out and say whatever they want though and there is no reading between the lines lol

One close to an “adult” if you want to call it that in their late teens to early 20’s lololol
Yes I would like to have non stop eating stop so my grocery bills will go down. Teens driving as my stress levels are too high from that. The sassiness and grumpiness and nastiness gone. Ummm I could go on to make parenting easier lolololol

LOL, gotcha. I hadn't had coffee yet when I read that.
No worries lol
I also forgot to add that if you're hearing the song on the radio (do those still exist? Lol) you're likely hearing the censored version anyway. That's even more annoying hearing a bell or whistle every 2 seconds while you're trying to make sense of the appalling lyrics your deviant mind is trying to hear Even on YouTube the clean version of songs pops up when you search. You have to actively seek the uncensored or "dirty" version.

Where do I find these explicit lyrics warning? On the cassette my child just bought? Smh. You do realize that usually you hear this music on your teens speakers when they are playing it. This is not 1985 when you buy something for your kid and can see what they will be listening to.

Do you have children? The anything else to ban to make parenting easier sounds like something people with no kids say, especially on this board smh

tons of inappropriate music back then. 'Push it' instantly comes to mind lol. We should be way more fkd up as a generation . Remember "My neck, my back"?
Yes all of it, I remember all of it. I was such a baby talking about “Push it real good.. ahh push it”.
My neck my back is so inappropriate lol! Never mind all the NWA, Tupac and Biggy I listened to.
Exactly! lol all these young'ns trying to be shocking today need to take a seat. It's all been done before and if they want to try to one up the older generation they're going to have their work cut out for them.
At least 10 years ago the German metal band Rammstein made a video for a song called "pu$$y" that is straight up uncensored hardcore porn that would make Charlie Sheen blush . The band members have uncensored sex with porn actresses while singing about how they can't get laid in Germany lol. Klingklang would have to chime in with how Germany handled it, but in the US you won't even find the uncensored video on youtube. You'd basically have to go to a porn site to find it.
Go back a little further... "Hollywood Undead - Everywhere I go" would make a feminist's head explode and should keep law enforcement on creep alert.
Nothing new. Sex sells and it always has.

Music you disapprove of should be banned because you can't control the media your child consumes under the roof you pay for? Makes sense. Anything else you'd like banned to make parenting easier? Aren't your children older, like I think you've mentioned at least one is already an adult? An adult can choose whatever they want to listen to. You're kind of SOL there in that case.
ITA with you. It's your responsibility as a parent to monitor what your kids consume and then realistically, at a certain age you kind of just have to let them be. As a teenager I listened to all kinds of music, some trashy, but what was my mom going to do at age 16-17 years old?
They put explicit warning labels on music for a reason just like they put ratings on movies for a reason. We don't ban content we don't like just to make our job as a parent easier. Ridiculous.

OMG!! I remember Rammstein, haven't heard them in years!!
You're so right though, trashy and explicit music (and videos) is nothing new. And every older generation will be appalled by the younger generations music, it is just how it goes.
Of course I am biased but Gen X had the best music EVER!

You haven’t heard much of the music kids listen to now then, I assume. Many times you don’t even know if they have headphones in. I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s so aware of the songs but if you are concerned over the N word, you wouldn’t think anyone else is by listening to the majority of these songs.
This was to MC09 also.

I actually know nothing about that story, lol. I don’t think it was a big deal here, but I don’t really like Rammstein anyway.

Do you have children? The anything else to ban to make parenting easier sounds like something people with no kids say, especially on this board smh
No need to shake your head lol I'm hesitant to tell you anything about myself as you seem to run with it but I don’t judge other parents like you're judging me with this comment. My point was it's silly to want something banned because it makes parenting hard or an inconvenience. Yes, your early 20s child is an adult. At this point you can only tell them why that type of music is offensive to you and to not play it in your presence because it bothers you.
