No need to shake your head lol I'm hesitant to tell you anything about myself as you seem to run with it but I don’t judge other parents like you're judging me with this comment. My point was it's silly to want something banned because it makes parenting hard or an inconvenience. Yes, your early 20s child is an adult. At this point you can only tell them why that type of music is offensive to you and to not play it in your presence because it bothers you.
I never said once I would try and get it banned and nothing bothers me but it is like nothing now to say what they disguised in songs years ago. That was my point. I can tell from experience people who don’t have kids or ones at certain ages.

If all these people trying to be “Woke” come for my rap music we’re going to have a problem.
Did anyone see this Tik Tok about us in the 90s vs WAP. This was me
WAP vs. Me in 1998
tons of inappropriate music back then. 'Push it' instantly comes to mind lol. We should be way more fkd up as a generation . Remember "My neck, my back"?
Yes all of it, I remember all of it. I was such a baby talking about “Push it real good.. ahh push it”.
My neck my back is so inappropriate lol! Never mind all the NWA, Tupac and Biggy I listened to.
Exactly! lol all these young'ns trying to be shocking today need to take a seat. It's all been done before and if they want to try to one up the older generation they're going to have their work cut out for them.
At least 10 years ago the German metal band Rammstein made a video for a song called "pu$$y" that is straight up uncensored hardcore porn that would make Charlie Sheen blush . The band members have uncensored sex with porn actresses while singing about how they can't get laid in Germany lol. Klingklang would have to chime in with how Germany handled it, but in the US you won't even find the uncensored video on youtube. You'd basically have to go to a porn site to find it.
Go back a little further... "Hollywood Undead - Everywhere I go" would make a feminist's head explode and should keep law enforcement on creep alert.
Nothing new. Sex sells and it always has.
I actually know nothing about that story, lol. I don’t think it was a big deal here, but I don’t really like Rammstein anyway.
What kind of German citizen are you to not know this story?? lol
Europe tends to be more laid back with this stuff.

I’ve noticed that I am oblivious to certain things. I didn’t even know what this “WAP” song is and I have no idea who the singer is. I’m also not really into a lot of music that other people are interested in.

No need to shake your head lol I'm hesitant to tell you anything about myself as you seem to run with it but I don’t judge other parents like you're judging me with this comment. My point was it's silly to want something banned because it makes parenting hard or an inconvenience. Yes, your early 20s child is an adult. No, you were questioning why society at large wasn't banning it. You're right, it gets harder as your kids get older and they start to develop their own tastes, preferences, and personalities, and they start to have outside influences, but as the parent they still have to abide by your rules until they become adults. Some families are more lax and others are more conservative about this stuff.

ITA with you. It's your responsibility as a parent to monitor what your kids consume and then realistically, at a certain age you kind of just have to let them be. As a teenager I listened to all kinds of music, some trashy, but what was my mom going to do at age 16-17 years old?
Luckily my parents didn't understand the music I was listening to due to their language barrier lol immigrant kids lucked out here lol my parents were more concerned with our clothing choices than music.
We used to enjoy punking my immigrant mom by making her sing the lyrics to Eminem songs and other diddies she had no clue about for sport it gave us joy and we think deep down it gave her joy too

Those books weren't banned. The private company that owns them decided to remove their least profitable titles from print. As the proprietor they're well within their right to do that even if we disagree with their decision. Every company does this. It's why we don't see Ectocooler on supermarket shelves anymore and Taco Bell won't stop fking with their menu.

Don’t most people stream music? Anyway I don’t think kids are listening to songs like wap and analyzing the words. Good beat sing along someone overheard a kid and it’s like woah! Or as an adult you hear yourself and you say did I just say that out loud?

Same exact thing here!!!! Even though I was still living in my country during that time, I knew exactly what the lyrics of those songs were all about except my mom cause she knew very little English. She did enjoy the beat and rhythm in those songs though!

I think it depends on the kid, my son is clueless so he doesn’t know. His face when I broke down all the Cardi B songs he was rapping along too.
When I said you know she is talking about her vagina, his face was classic. I laughed so hard.
I think kids, or perhaps teens, who like to listen to the lyrics and study songs will know. I was one of those kids but I also think it’s the minority. Most just like the beat.

There’s no other better music like from the 80’s, no doubt about that! Even my 5 and 7 yos have their favorites, the clean versions though . I don’t believe with banning for sure, I also don’t think it’ll ever happen because money is greedy. However I do think that now certain songs are pretty straight forward, no room for interpretation or leaving it to the imagination. Do they deserve banning? I don’t think so. But I guess that’s when clean/dirty versions and parental advisory come into play?

Yeah my kids don’t listen to the radio, god forbid. I pay for Spotify for one and the other gets their own stuff. Oh no the kids know. Some are just so bad that I actually have said turn that off. It’s not the curses it is the things they say with women and sometimes just gets me sick that this is even allowed to be out there.

Yup. I'll never forget the time my 4 yr old nephew looked up and asked the grown ups what suicide meant because a character had just said ?the word on DISNEY'S TOY STORY. Toy story is a "newer" franchise in that we were already older when it first came out in the 90s. We'd seen it a bunch of times over the years, but nobody remembered that scene. Talk about awkward unexpected moment.
When something like that happens you start to appreciate that at least graphic content comes with a warning attached and a censored option. It's like saying The Sopranos and Game of Thrones should be banned. Nobody wants their form of entertainment banned lol.
People that find songs like WAP offensive would be relieved that typically sex is the mainstream that sells and some hard rock/metal and some hardcore rap/hip hop songs and their videos and lyrics filled with sex, gore, horror, violence, suicide, death, and other disturbing imagery and content is less mainstream. It suddenly makes just sexual content easier to deal with lol. Side note, I was shocked when I learned Childish Gambino is Troy from Community!!! He was hilarious on that show.
Does anybody remember when Tool's creepy disturbing videos would air at night on Headbager's Ball on MTV?

Closer (GREAT song!) came on the other day while I was driving with me son, I tried to leave it on because he's usually oblivious, lol, but that one is too much for his ears. haha I love driving without the kids because then I can blast all of the awesome music from back in the day!

Omg this reminds me of all the Spanish songs in the 80/90s that have explicit content and the stuff they played on La Mega that they get away with because it’s a different language.

I love Tool, but when their videos came on when I was really young I used to make a mad dash for the remote to change that channel, I didn't even care if it was Kenny G on VH1 lol I had to enjoy Tool's music without the visual component. I wasn't easily squeamish as a kid and had no problem with gore or horror and other videos like Marilyn Manson or Slipknot. Tool videos aren't really horror. Idk they were always just next level in their own category. Like they pushed the envelope to fck with people on a deep-rooted unsettling psychological level. I don't think anyone has ever matched their ability to do that.

Yep today they just come out and say things that might not be caught on to like back then and even years before that lol
Nine Inch Nails and their song Closer would like to have a word with you
So would Sublime and their song Date Rape.
Lords of Acid.
Closer (GREAT song!) came on the other day while I was driving with me son, I tried to leave it on because he's usually oblivious, lol, but that one is too much for his ears. haha I love driving without the kids because then I can blast all of the awesome music from back in the day! My DC know about Closer, but they're in their upper teens. I remember the first time I saw the uncensored version of the video and thinking "Wow, the version in my mind was a LOT worse than the actual video"...
