Dress for school auction

Please help me decide for a dress to my DS's school auction. I'm in the committee, so I'll be 'hosting' that night, as well. Thanks!

Aghhh! Sorry for all of the editing. I'm trying to make things easier so the images would appear here, but I just can't. I want to add that I'm short, so the dresses would be probably just above my knee. The event is on the last week of March. Thanks for any feedback.

My opinion is that they are both way too short for a school function.

I am not sure how short you are but I agree with above poster. They are both crazy short.

I like the first one better. I'm also extremely short (barely 5ft) and these wouldn't be too short for me.

I wouldn't wear too high a heel, though.

Neither are appropriate IMO for a school function. I'd keep looking.

Dress for school auction

I would look for a simple shirt dress or something along that line. The ones above are more for a night out on the town.

Did you check on what the other mom's are wearing for the event. Our district has basket dinners (like an auction) and it is pretty casual. Most dress is pants and a nice shirt. If it is a dress it's more like something they would wear to work.

Re: Dress for school auction

Actually the event is pretty formal. Moms coming from work would wear work clothes, but SAHMs wear cocktail dresses - I guess is one of the few opportunities we get to dress up lol. It is kind of a gala, in a restaurant (last year was in a ball room and prior years on events places). I prefer to wear shift dresses... That's why I saw these two options...

These dresses aren't cocktail dresses, they are more for going to a club. I would keep looking

I see what everyone is saying and I think the fact that the first dress is so short on the model makes it look more like club wear. I still think you can get away with it. I might add a belt and then do some chandelier earrings and a cuff bracelet, a clutch.

I think a full on cocktail dress when other moms are wearing business attire would be too much. This is a decent in-between option. The second dress I don't care for at all.

I think you can pull it off.

As long as you pass the bend-over-arm-raise-under-butt-test, you're fine. I like the blue one.

I like the 2nd one if it is longer on you. The first one is too flowy. To me, that's what make it clubby.

If you are looking for a shift dress, I like something like this better.

Re: Dress for school auction

Where is the event? I work with many clients who hold school auctions. I think people are misunderstanding. There are no students at these events. It is a dressy night out for the parents. This is not out of the norm at all. Have fun!

Re: Dress for school auction

I disagree about seeing 'what the other moms are wearing' SOMEONE has to decide what's appropriate attire for this event? Why do the 'yoga pants Moms' win? KWIM?
IMO, as long as your attire is ocassion appropriate, you should never ever base your decision re: what to wear on what others have chosen to wear.
I couldn't care less about showing up in a dress if everyone else is in yoga pants.

I think both of those could work. I like the blue one better. But I think you have to try both on and be sure they are not that short.
Those models may be 5'11' .........but I'd still confirm the length was appropriate for a school function.

Completely agree! I feel like it's better to be overdressed for an event than underdressed- and this is coming from someone who prefers jeans and Converse over anything, lol.
I prefer the second dress to the first, personally - only because I'm not too into drapey dresses.

I don't like shift dresses on myself, so I am shopping vicariously!

How about THIS with a logn statement necklace

or

THIS lace trimmed one

Come in a few colors--I like the green.

Re: Dress for school auction

Thanks ladies! I saw the one last suggested and it was one of my options. All of those suggested are beautiful.

To the questions, kids are not coming. It's an only parents event, from 6 pm to 10 pm or later.
