Are you still leaning towards blacktop?
Me personally, considering it is such a large portion of the front of your home, I find it a bit hard looking. I personally would opt for pavers b/c then you can have a nice walkway that is just defined by a different color paver border, or different shape stone. JMO

We are definetly doing blacktop for the driveway - dh really isnt fond of pavers for the whole thing -

Then I would say, do a paver walkway, and frame the entire driveway with those same pavers, and put a paver apron (or bricks/brick walkway) to soften it and tie it altogether.

Ok, Here is a pic of my house. The landscaping isn’t started yet & we didn't cover the brick w/ stone yet but...
We decided to keep a 1/2 moon of garden to the right of the door.
We went with pavers but you get the idea. We also did the stoop in stone. It's slate with stone inlayed on the top.
Because you decided not to do a porch, have you considered a portico / reverse gable like we did over the front stoop?
Our houses are similar & I Hope this helps.
