driving in a car at 20+ weeks?

Do you drive yourself around, any trouble the seatbelt?

I can't stand the way the lower strap goes across my little 10 week bulge. Chat Icon

I feel like I'll be handicapped in later weeks.

I still drive at 36 weeks. I put the seat belt under my belly but there isn't that much more room on the belt!

I'm 25 weeks and fine to drive. I remember feeling uncomfortable during that stage where the seatbelt didn't quite fit under my belly. Now I just put it under my belly and it's fine.

And you're pregnant, not handicapped! You will be surprised, you'll be able to do a lot more than you think you will at this point! Chat Icon

i am almost 28 weeks, and i still drive just fine. I put the seatbelt at the bottom of my belly.

My mom also made me a little pillow i put at the lower part of my belly, then the seat belt

I'm 32 weeks and driving back and forth to work is about a 50 min drive each way...driving is fine, I keep the belt as low as I can...getting out after sitting in the car that long is sometimes very slow...and sometimes my back hurts from all the sitting(I sit at a desk at work) but I plan on doing it till the baby shows up!

I drove up until the last week when pregnant with DD. I had some trouble getting out of my car-because it is low to the ground and I was huge-but other than that no problems. I just kept the belt under my belly.

Re: driving in a car at 20+ weeks?

I'm 29 weeks and I drive around all the time. A few weeks ago I drove somewhere and it was almost 2 hours one way.

I feel fine driving. I just make sure the seatbelt is below my belly. I find my pants way more tight and annoying that the seatbelt.

Also, as the pregnancy has progressed, I've moved the seat back a little more. God forbid I have an accident, I would want to minimize the impact of the steering wheel against my stomach.

I love driving (and I can't stand my DH's driving) so I'm hoping to drive as long as possible.

32 weeks and still driving...I have to agree that getting in and out of the car is much harder than actually driving it

I commute from Suffolk to Queens everyday for work and have no problems. When your belly is big enough, just tuck the lap belt part underneath your belly and pull the strap tight. You'll be fine. Chat Icon

Yeah, that's probably my problem. I hold the seat belt away from my bloated belly with my left hand when I drive. Its just so uncomfortable.

Re: driving in a car at 20+ weeks?

my mom yells at me for squishing the baby with the seatbelt so now im in the habit of pulling the lower strap as far down below my belly as it can go..i guess once my belly starts to get really big it will be easy bc it will stay thereChat Icon

Re: driving in a car at 20+ weeks?

I'm fine, I put is under my belly. My doggy used to come with me to stores and stuff and sit on my lap (shes small), now she cant fit between the steering wheel and my belly!!

Re: driving in a car at 20+ weeks?

I don't drive but I asked 2 doctors how I should wear my seatbelt. I was told the healthiest and safest way to wear the strap below your belly, aligned with your hips and the chest strap should fall evenly in between your clavicle and your shoulder. The straps shouldnt go over your belly. In a collision, it can severely harm the baby.

I drove until the day I went into labor. I wasn't that bad for me and I was HUGE!! My belly did get in the way of turning the wheel a little bit though...lol.
