DS is young for his class so he's been attending 5th b-day parties and the parents still stay.

Drop off bday parties ... at 4?

I wouldn't because I don't know the parents from his school and this is my DS's first year there so he doesn't really know anyone that well. Also DS tends to act more bratty when I'm not around.

If it was a close friend or family and I had other plans then yea I would.

Re: Drop off bday parties ... at 4?

For a child turning 4, I think it is too young. DD's friend had a 5th birthday party in her home that was a drop off party. A block away from their house is Friendly's. DH, DS, and I had dinner at Friendly's while DD was at the dinner party. Since we know the family really well, and we were literally a block away I was ok with it, but not really thrilled. I made sure the mom had both DH and my cell phone numbers and we would have been able to be back at the house in only 2 minutes had we been needed I dropped her off. Had the event been at a party place I would not have dropped her off.

I've dropped off my 4 yr old before but I knew the mom and a bunch of moms/kids there so I had a designated mom watch him.

For me, 4 is too young. No one is going to watch my kid like I do and at that age I wouldn't feel comfortable.

Nope too young IMO unless it was a close family member or super close friend no way I would leave my 4YO at a drop off birthday party.
